Original job description
Why Exapta
Exapta Solutions was founded in 1998 to bring better tools and techniques to no-till farming. Our team combines farmer insight, agronomic principles, and engineering precision to solve field problems that other manufacturers often overlook.
We serve farmers, equipment dealers, distributors, manufacturers, and industry partners who expect useful answers, honest recommendations, and practical solutions. This role is for a salesperson who enjoys talking with farmers, wants to represent products with a real purpose, and wants to be part of a close-knit team at our headquarters.
The Opportunity
This is a consultative inside sales role at the center of our customer relationships. Working from our McPherson headquarters, you will be the first point of contact for farmers who call, email, or reach us online, and you will build new business through purposeful outbound prospecting by phone and email. About one day a week, you will join our territory representatives on farm and customer visits to see equipment firsthand and strengthen relationships.
You will speak the language of farmers and agricultural equipment. That means asking good questions, recognizing planter and drill performance issues, and translating technical observations into clear recommendations that improve the customer’s operation.
What You Will Own
- Answer inbound calls and respond quickly to web inquiries, turning questions into recommendations, quotes, and orders.
- Process orders accurately and coordinate clean handoffs with shipping, service, and operations.
- Prospect for new business through outbound phone and email outreach to farmers, following up consistently without waiting for leads.
- Ask good questions about the customer’s planter or drill, identify the likely performance issue, and recommend the right Exapta solution.
- Build lasting relationships with farmers, growing repeat business and expanding existing accounts.
- Support sales representatives by following up on leads, preparing quotes, scheduling visits, and keeping customers informed.
- Join sales representatives on farm and customer visits about one day a week, including equipment inspections and demonstrations.
- Own follow up from first conversation through close and delivery.
- Maintain accurate account, opportunity, activity, and order information in the company CRM.
- Share customer feedback, common equipment issues, and competitive insights with sales leadership, product, service, and operations.
- Assist with Marketing efforts
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
- You learn Exapta’s products well enough to confidently match solutions to each customer’s equipment.
- Inbound calls and web inquiries are answered promptly, and orders are entered accurately the first time.
- You build a healthy, visible pipeline through consistent outbound prospecting and follow up.
- You grow revenue, win new customers, and expand repeat business with existing farmers.
- Territory representatives see you as a reliable partner who keeps leads moving and customers informed.
- You use the CRM consistently and provide information leadership can trust.
- You meet the approved revenue, account, conversion, retention, and activity targets once those measures are finalized.

- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand equipment concerns and explain practical solutions over the phone.
- Strong listening, communication, and relationship building skills, with a friendly, professional phone presence.
- Comfort with outbound prospecting and the discipline to follow up consistently.
- Organization and attention to detail when handling quotes, orders, and multiple customer requests.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a close-knit team.
- Experience with CRM or order management systems, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- A valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel locally for farm and customer visits about one day a week.
- Ability to work onsite at our McPherson, Kansas headquarters during standard business hours.
