At The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC), every sale helps fund programs that provide recovery services, housing support, and life-changing assistance to individuals in our community. As a Lead Sales Associate, you'll play a key role in supporting store operations, delivering outstanding customer service, mentoring team members, and helping maximize store performance.

What You'll Do

Retail Operations & Leadership

• Support the Store Manager and Assistant Manager in daily store operations.
• Serve as a lead team member and provide direction to store associates as needed.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and store security.
• Monitor sales floor conditions to ensure merchandise is organized, stocked, and attractively displayed.
• Help maintain pricing accuracy and adherence to store standards.
• Support achievement of sales goals and operational objectives.

Customer Service

• Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming shopping experience.
• Assist customers with merchandise selection and purchases.
• Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
• Promote a positive store environment for customers, donors, and team members.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for The Salvation Army mission.

Team Support

• Assist with training and coaching new employees.
• Encourage teamwork, productivity, and excellent customer service standards.
• Communicate effectively with management regarding operational needs and customer feedback.
• Support beneficiaries and work therapy participants through positive interactions and mentoring.

Merchandising & Store Maintenance

• Restock merchandise and maintain attractive displays.
• Assist with inventory movement and sales floor replenishment.
• Ensure dressing rooms, sales areas, and checkout stations remain clean and organized.
• Follow all safety, security, and loss prevention procedures.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous retail, cashiering, customer service, or sales experience.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Basic math skills and cash-handling ability.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift merchandise throughout the workday.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred

• Prior supervisory, lead, or keyholder experience in a retail environment.
• Experience training or mentoring staff.
• Thrift, resale, retail, or nonprofit experience.

What You Need

Required

Education & Experience

• High School Graduate or Equivalent
• Retail experience required

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to speak, write and understand English for effective communication
• Basic computer skills including Point of Sales System and payroll program
• Proficient cash handling and accurate change-giving abilities
• Strong customer service orientation

Certifications

• Valid Driver's License and personal transportation for bank runs
• Must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Record Search

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, use hands, handle, feel, hear, and talk
• Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms
• Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

• Store environment with quiet to moderate noise level
• May be dusty and experience temperature fluctuations based on weather
• May stand for extended periods

Travel

• May be required to travel to various locations for work or training
