MEP Project Manager | Data Center Construction

The GOR Group is partnering with a leading general contractor specializing in complex mission-critical, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Known for its commitment to quality, safety, innovation, and client satisfaction, our client is seeking an MEP Project Manager to oversee mechanical and electrical construction on a large-scale data center development in Statesville, North Carolina.

This opportunity is suited to a construction professional who brings strong field execution experience, technical knowledge across mechanical and electrical systems, and the ability to lead trade partners through complex project delivery. Travel Arrangements: Local, relocating, and traveling candidates are welcome. The role requires full-time presence at the project site. Additional compensation, bonus opportunities, per diem, stipends, and other traveler benefits may be available based on the assignment and individual arrangement.

Position Summary

The MEP Project Manager will manage assigned mechanical and electrical scopes from planning and procurement through installation, startup, testing, commissioning, and turnover. Working closely with project leadership, field teams, designers, subcontractors, and commissioning professionals, this individual will keep MEP work aligned with project safety, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.

The ideal candidate understands how complex building systems are coordinated, installed, sequenced, and delivered in an active construction environment.

Data center construction experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong MEP delivery experience in healthcare, industrial, advanced manufacturing, or other technically complex construction environments are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Field Execution

  • Lead day-to-day planning and execution of assigned mechanical and electrical construction scopes.
  • Coordinate project leadership, field teams, design partners, subcontractors, and specialty trades around clear priorities and milestones.
  • Monitor progress, identify constraints, and drive timely resolution of issues affecting safety, quality, cost, or schedule.
  • Lead MEP coordination and progress meetings, tracking commitments and holding trade partners accountable for deliverables.

Technical Coordination & Constructability

  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and coordination documents for scope alignment and constructability.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls, and supporting building systems across multiple trades.
  • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, design conflicts, and installation challenges before they affect field execution.
  • Partner with designers and field leadership to resolve technical issues and establish effective installation sequencing.

Scheduling & Procurement

  • Develop and maintain MEP schedules in coordination with the overall construction schedule.
  • Track long-lead equipment and materials through procurement, fabrication, delivery, installation, and startup.
  • Identify schedule and procurement risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate impacts to project leadership.
  • Coordinate installation milestones and system readiness to support testing, commissioning, and turnover.

Subcontractor & Cost Management

  • Manage mechanical and electrical subcontractor performance against contractual, safety, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor budgets, commitments, change orders, and forecasted costs for assigned scopes.
  • Review subcontractor change requests and evaluate supporting documentation, pricing, and schedule impacts.
  • Support change-order negotiations and maintain accurate project controls and records.

Safety, Quality & Commissioning

  • Reinforce project safety expectations and coordinate with field and safety leadership to address concerns.
  • Support QA/QC processes and verify that installations meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate trade readiness and participation in startup, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Drive deficiency resolution, punch-list completion, and closeout documentation to support successful system turnover.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 8–15 years of relevant construction experience, including progressive responsibility in project engineering, field supervision, superintendent, or project management roles.
  • Demonstrated success managing mechanical and/or electrical scopes on large, complex construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of both mechanical and electrical building systems, including coordination, installation, startup, testing, and commissioning.
  • Experience with a general contractor, MEP contractor, mechanical contractor, electrical contractor, or comparable construction organization.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, procurement, schedules, budgets, and change orders.
  • Familiarity with construction QA/QC, commissioning coordination, and project turnover.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent construction and field experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work full-time at the Statesville project site.

What Sets You Apart

  • A record of meaningful contributions to complex projects and accountability for results.
  • Strong technical breadth and the ability to translate project requirements into effective field execution.
  • Clear, professional communication with owners, engineers, project leaders, and trade partners.
  • A collaborative leadership style that builds trust while maintaining accountability.
  • Sound judgment, strong organization, and a proactive approach to resolving problems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to project teams and an interest in long-term career growth.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a major data center development while building a long-term career with a growing general contractor.
