Original job description
The GOR Group is partnered with a leading general contractor specializing in complex mission-critical, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Our client is recognized for delivering high-performance facilities while maintaining a strong commitment to innovation, quality, safety, and client satisfaction. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support the site development and construction of a large-scale data center project.
LOCATION: Statesville, NC. This is a full-time, onsite position supporting a major data center development on an approximately 200-acre site.
TRAVEL: Candidates local to the project are encouraged to apply. Our client is also open to candidates willing to travel or relocate for the assignment, particularly individuals interested in building a long-term career supporting large-scale projects across multiple markets.
Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent will support day-to-day field execution on a large-scale data center construction project, with an initial focus on site development, mass excavation, earthwork, grading, and cut-and-fill operations.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience supporting complex civil and sitework operations and will work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and trade partners to maintain safety, quality, schedule, and field productivity.
This opportunity is particularly well suited for an early- to mid-career construction professional who has developed strong sitework expertise and is interested in expanding beyond civil construction into foundations, concrete, precast, and vertical construction. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to begin on the site package and grow into a broader-based Superintendent role.
Key Responsibilities
Field Construction
- Support day-to-day field operations on a large, complex construction site.
- Assist the Superintendent with planning, coordination, sequencing, and execution of construction activities.
- Monitor field progress, manpower, equipment, and subcontractor performance.

- Identify field conflicts and communicate potential schedule, quality, or constructability issues.
Site Development & Earthwork
- Support large-scale mass excavation, grading, cut-and-fill, and site-development activities.
- Coordinate civil subcontractors, excavation contractors, equipment operations, haul routes, and site logistics.
- Monitor earthwork sequencing and production to support overall project milestones.
- Review civil plans, specifications, survey information, and field conditions.
- Work closely with site contractors to resolve construction issues and maintain production.
Candidates coming directly from an excavation contractor or civil sitework contractor are encouraged to apply if they have strong experience managing substantial earthwork operations.
Subcontractor Coordination
- Coordinate subcontractors and trade partners performing work in assigned areas.
- Monitor trade performance against schedule, quality, and safety expectations.
- Communicate daily priorities and upcoming work activities.
- Assist with resolving field conflicts and sequencing challenges.
- Support coordination between civil contractors and other project disciplines as construction progresses.
Safety & Quality
- Promote a strong safety culture and help ensure field activities comply with project safety requirements.
- Support jobsite quality-control activities and field inspections.
- Monitor construction for consistency with drawings, specifications, and project standards.
- Identify deficiencies and help coordinate corrective actions.
- Maintain an organized, professional, and client-ready jobsite.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Participate in field coordination and planning meetings.
- Assist with progress tracking and field documentation.
- Communicate site conditions, constraints, and construction issues to project leadership.
- Help maintain alignment between field execution and overall project objectives.
Vertical Construction Development
As the site-development phase progresses, the Assistant Superintendent will have the opportunity to expand into broader construction responsibilities, including:
- Concrete foundations
- Structural concrete

The goal is to identify someone who can grow beyond being solely a sitework specialist and develop into a well-rounded Superintendent.
