Position Summary

The Gilbert School is seeking dependable, flexible, and enthusiastic Per Diem Substitute Teachers to provide classroom coverage when regular teachers are absent. Substitute Teachers are responsible for maintaining a positive and productive learning environment, delivering lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher, and ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.
• Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures.
• Take attendance and complete any required classroom documentation.
• Ensure students remain engaged in assigned instructional activities.
• Communicate relevant classroom information, student concerns, and any incidents to the appropriate school personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school-related matters.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; candidates must meet applicable Connecticut requirements for substitute teachers.
• Prior teaching, tutoring, or experience working with children is preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
• Ability to adapt to different classroom environments and instructional needs.
• Ability to work independently while following school policies and procedures.
• Commitment to student safety, academic success, and maintaining a professional learning environment.
