Original job description
TerraPower is a nuclear technology company based in Bellevue, Washington. At its core, the company is working to raise living standards globally through a more affordable, secure, and environmentally friendly form of nuclear energy along with innovations in medical isotopes to improve human health. In 2006, TerraPower originated with Bill Gates and a group of like-minded visionaries who evaluated the fundamental challenges to raising living standards around the world. They recognized energy access was crucial to the health and economic well-being of communities and decided that the private sector needed to take action and create energy sources that would advance global energy deployment. TerraPower’s mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field. As a result, the company’s activities in the fields of nuclear energy and related sciences are yielding significant innovations in the safety and economics of nuclear power, hybrid energy and medical applications – all for significant human health benefits.
TerraPower is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development and influencing change within the nuclear power landscape and bringing forward the critical production of medical isotopes. TerraPower is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected Veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
TerraPower's IT team is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all IT systems from data center infrastructure to enterprise applications. This role is the technical lead for TerraPower's DevOps practice, working with IT, software, and AI engineering teams on the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of the platforms and pipelines used to build, secure, and deliver software.
The Senior DevOps Engineer owns the enterprise DevOps toolchain (GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, Artifactory, and Xray) and is accountable for maturing DevOps practices across the organization. The role operates as an internal platform engineer: it delivers reusable, versioned automation (infrastructure as code, configuration management, and pipeline templates) that other teams consume to build and deploy consistently. Responsibilities include building repeatable and auditable CI/CD pipelines with end-to-end traceability, managing third-party software packages, and coaching engineering teams to adopt these practices. The Configuration Management Specialist will ensure processes and standards are in place to ensure work and quality meets the required standards
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to influence and build strong relationships across teams. Candidates should have experience supporting users and development teams in an enterprise environment and a track record of raising the technical standard of the teams they work with.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own and mature TerraPower's DevOps practices: define standards, identify gaps, and drive adoption of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and secure-by-default configuration across IT and software engineering teams.
- Take end-to-end ownership of the design, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise DevOps platforms, including GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, and JFrog Xray, ensuring they are highly available, secure, and support an efficient, collaborative development environment.
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins that automate build, test, and deployment, with traceability from source code to deployed artifact.
- Internalize and govern third-party packages and dependencies through Artifactory, and use Xray to scan and manage them, to meet security, regulatory, and software supply chain requirements.
- Teach and coach software engineers on CI/CD, deployment automation, and code traceability, raising engineering teams' confidence and consistency in releasing code.
- Perform code reviews, including Python and PowerShell, for AI and Information Technology teams, ensuring quality, security, maintainability, and adherence to standards.
- Operate as a platform engineer delivering reusable automation artifacts, such as infrastructure-as-code modules, Ansible roles and playbooks, pipeline templates, and installation and provisioning frameworks for Windows Server and Linux, that enable teams to deploy consistently, securely, and with less manual effort.
- Deploy and manage Azure resources end-to-end as code using patterns that are repeatable, auditable, and reusable across projects and environments.
- Mature the organization's Ansible footprint and Ansible Automation Platform, including standards, content structure, credential and access controls, and enablement of other teams to run and contribute automation.
- Support information security software audits by providing evidence, documentation, and remediation for the DevOps toolchain, pipelines, and package management controls.
- Develop scalable automation frameworks that improve service health, manageability, reliability, and monitoring, and document them so other teams can adopt them without direct involvement.
- Perform regular maintenance including application patching, app/plugin updates, upgrades, and configuration changes for DevOps platforms.
- Act as a technical leader and mentor to DevOps and engineering staff, promoting skills development and continuous improvement.
- Author functional and technical documentation, including install procedures, environment configurations, and pipeline standards.
- Own, triage, investigate, and resolve service issues with enterprise DevOps applications, serving as a tier 3 escalation resource.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, information security, software engineering, and AI, to align DevOps initiatives with broader organizational goals.
- Demonstrate end-to-end expertise and technical ownership in several of the following areas:
- Software delivery tooling – GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, Artifactory, Xray
- Cloud technologies – Azure (PaaS and IaaS)
- Data center technologies – Windows Server, VMware
- Infrastructure automation and infrastructure as code for Windows Server/Linux

- Experience conducting code reviews in Python and PowerShell
