TerraPower is a nuclear technology company based in Bellevue, Washington. At its core, the company is working to raise living standards globally through a more affordable, secure, and environmentally friendly form of nuclear energy along with innovations in medical isotopes to improve human health. In 2006, TerraPower originated with Bill Gates and a group of like-minded visionaries who evaluated the fundamental challenges to raising living standards around the world. They recognized energy access was crucial to the health and economic well-being of communities and decided that the private sector needed to take action and create energy sources that would advance global energy deployment. TerraPower’s mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field. As a result, the company’s activities in the fields of nuclear energy and related sciences are yielding significant innovations in the safety and economics of nuclear power, hybrid energy and medical applications – all for significant human health benefits.”
TerraPower is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development and influencing change within the nuclear power landscape and bringing forward the critical production of medical isotopes. TerraPower is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected Veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
Risk Analyst
TerraPower is seeking a highly talented and motivated Schedule Risk Analyst. This role reports to the TerraPower Project Management Office within the Project Risk Management Program. The Schedule Risk Analyst plays a critical role in quantifying, evaluating, and communicating schedule uncertainty across complex nuclear design, procurement, and construction efforts. The position works closely with project controls, planning and scheduling, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to integrate schedule risk analysis into execution strategies and support confident, risk-informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Plan, build, and run schedule risk analyses (SRA) on integrated project schedules to determine the probability of achieving key milestones and completion dates
- Develop and execute Monte Carlo simulations, including defining duration uncertainty, risk event probabilities and impacts, correlations, and calendar and logic risks
- Interpret simulation results (confidence levels, criticality indices, sensitivity and tornado analyses, and driving-path analysis) and translate them into clear insights and recommendations for project leadership
- Determine schedule contingency and management reserve needs, and recommend risk-informed target dates at defined confidence levels (e.g., P50/P80)
- Assess the quality and integrity of schedules, including logic, constraints, float, and critical path, and work with schedulers to resolve deficiencies before analysis
- Integrate schedule risk with the project risk register by linking identified risks to schedule activities and quantifying their time impacts
- Conduct thorough assessments of risk situations including schedule, cost, quality, and operational capacity
- Perform what-if, mitigation, and scenario analyses to evaluate the schedule benefit of response strategies and recovery plans
- Support integrated cost and schedule risk analysis where required
- Facilitate risk workshops and expert elicitation sessions to gather duration ranges and risk inputs from project teams
- Serve as the Risk representative to project teams, guiding them on documentation and processes that support schedule risk management
- Monitor subcontractor and partner schedule information to identify emerging risks and drive corrective actions as necessary
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, planners and schedulers, and engineering and construction leads, to ensure comprehensive risk mitigation strategies are developed or in place
- Maintain and enhance the suite of schedule risk tools, templates, and procedures, ensuring they are accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with industry best practices
- Partner with project teams, Legal, and/or outside consultants to evaluate schedule impacts and the responsibility of different parties in delay and claim situations
- Stay current on industry trends, software products, and regulatory changes affecting schedule risk and project risk management in the nuclear industry
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- 7 to 10 years of experience in project controls or risk management, with a strong focus on schedule risk analysis
- Required: Hands-on experience with scheduling tools such as Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
- Demonstrated experience building and running Monte Carlo schedule simulations and interpreting the results
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solid grasp of critical path method (CPM) scheduling principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex probabilistic results to technical and executive audiences
- Experience facilitating risk management sessions
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with risk management methodologies and standards, such as ISO 31000 and COSO
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Encouraged: Experience with schedule analysis and risk tools such as Deltek Acumen Fuse, Acumen Risk, Oracle Primavera Risk Analysis, @RISK, or similar
- Professional certifications such as PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional), PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional), PMP, PE, CRM, or AACE certifications (e.g., PSP, CCP)
- Advanced degree in engineering, risk management, finance, business administration, or a related field
- Experience with integrated cost and schedule risk analysis and with risk management software such as Active Risk Manager
- Knowledge of the nuclear industry, nuclear-specific regulatory requirements and standards (e.g., DOE G 413.3-7A), EPC agreements, and nuclear power design principles
- Experience with large capital projects, including first-of-a-kind or complex engineering, procurement, and construction environments
