This position involves providing specialized nursing care before, during, and after complex cardiac electrophysiology studies and interventions, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout. The RN-EP collaborates closely with cardiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate accurate diagnostics and effective therapeutic outcomes. This role demands a deep understanding of cardiac rhythms, device management, and advanced monitoring techniques to support optimal patient outcomes. Ultimately, the RN-EP contributes to advancing cardiac care by delivering expert nursing support in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a cardiac or critical care setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology principles and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (CERP) or equivalent specialty certification.
  • Experience with cardiac device management including pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
  • Familiarity with advanced cardiac monitoring equipment and software.
  • Strong background in patient education and counseling related to cardiac health and device care.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume electrophysiology lab or cardiac catheterization lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for electrophysiology procedures by conducting thorough assessments and educating them about the process.
  • Monitor patients’ cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously during procedures, promptly identifying and responding to any abnormalities.
  • Assist electrophysiologists during invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures, including device implantations and ablations.
  • Manage post-procedure care, including monitoring for complications, administering medications, and providing patient education for recovery and device management.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care, procedural data, and outcomes to support clinical decision-making and quality improvement.

Skills:

The RN-EP utilizes clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate patient status and anticipate potential complications during electrophysiology procedures. Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and monitoring technology is essential for real-time decision-making and patient safety. Effective communication skills are employed to educate patients and collaborate with the healthcare team, ensuring coordinated and comprehensive care. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are vital when responding to emergent situations or unexpected procedural challenges. Additionally, organizational skills support meticulous documentation and adherence to regulatory standards, contributing to overall quality and compliance in the electrophysiology setting.
