About the Role :
We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Field Service Engineer to support, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain enterprise server infrastructure in demanding customer environments. This role is ideal for a technically driven professional who enjoys solving complex hardware problems, investigating system failures, and taking full ownership of incidents from initial diagnosis through resolution. The successful candidate will have practical experience with enterprise x86 server hardware, component-level diagnostics, break/fix operations, and technical incident management. You must be able to explain your troubleshooting approach, make sound technical decisions under pressure, and communicate effectively with customers and technical teams. Experience supporting large-scale server environments, high-capacity storage systems, and liquid-cooled infrastructure is a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities :
Enterprise Server Troubleshooting and Hardware Diagnostics :
- Diagnose and resolve complex hardware issues across enterprise x86 server environments.
- Troubleshoot server power failures, boot issues, memory errors, DIMM/RAM faults, and component-related failures.
- Perform hardware diagnostics, break/fix repairs, component replacement, and preventive maintenance.
- Investigate BIOS, firmware, driver, operating system, and system-level issues to identify root causes.
- Interpret system logs, hardware alerts, diagnostic outputs, and error messages to determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Conduct structured troubleshooting, validate findings, implement solutions, and confirm system stability following repairs.
- Support server platforms from Supermicro, Dell, HPE, EMC, and comparable enterprise hardware vendors.
Incident Management and Ownership :
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned technical incidents, from initial assessment through resolution and documentation.
- Prioritize multiple concurrent incidents according to severity, business impact, service-level requirements, and operational risk.
- Develop clear troubleshooting plans, document diagnostic steps, and provide timely status updates.
- Recognize when escalation is necessary, engage the appropriate engineering teams, and remain accountable for follow-through.
- Perform root-cause investigations and contribute to continuous improvement of troubleshooting procedures and service delivery.
- Manage parts replacement and repair cycles to minimize downtime and restore services efficiently.
Data Center Infrastructure Support :
- Support enterprise server infrastructure in large-scale data center environments, including high-density computing and high-capacity storage systems.
- Assist with diagnosing infrastructure issues in environments supporting systems of 100 TB or greater.
- Apply appropriate troubleshooting practices to advanced cooling infrastructure, including liquid-cooled systems, where applicable.
- Follow established change-control procedures, equipment-handling requirements, and data center operational protocols.
- Maintain accurate technical records, incident reports, service metrics, and troubleshooting documentation.
Customer Service and Team Collaboration :
- Communicate technical findings and recommended solutions clearly to customers, service managers, and engineering teams.
- Manage challenging customer interactions professionally, including situations involving frustrated or dissatisfied customers.
- Collaborate with technical account managers, service managers, product teams, and other engineers to resolve complex issues.
- Maintain professional conduct and follow security, confidentiality, access-control, and equipment-handling requirements in restricted data center environments.
- Contribute to technical knowledge sharing, troubleshooting documentation, and training when required.
Required Qualifications and Experience :
- 5+ years of hands-on experience servicing, diagnosing, or repairing enterprise x86 server systems and associated hardware components.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting server hardware failures, particularly power-related issues, memory faults, DIMM/RAM failures, and boot or system stability problems.
- Strong practical knowledge of enterprise server architecture, hardware diagnostics, component replacement, and break/fix methodologies.
- Experience with Supermicro, Dell, HPE, EMC, or comparable enterprise server platforms.
- Ability to interpret system logs, diagnostic outputs, hardware alerts, and error codes to identify root causes.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of incidents, prioritize competing issues, and work independently under pressure.
- Strong analytical thinking and a methodical approach to troubleshooting, fault isolation, and problem resolution.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, including the ability to explain technical problems and handle challenging customer situations.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Willingness to work overnight shifts, weekends, and other nonstandard schedules as required.
- Willingness and ability to travel 75% or more.
- Reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, and adherence to strict security procedures.
Preferred Qualifications and Technical Advantages :
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise systems, including environments with 100 TB or greater of storage capacity.
- Experience troubleshooting liquid-cooled servers or other advanced thermal-management systems.
- Experience supporting high-density computing, hyperscale data centers, or mission-critical infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems, BIOS, firmware, drivers, and server management utilities.
- Experience with root-cause analysis, incident prioritization, service-level agreements, and technical escalation processes.
- Relevant server hardware, networking, Linux, or infrastructure certifications.
- Experience producing technical service reports, operational metrics, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Experience delivering technical guidance or training to customers and fellow engineers.
Education :
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred. Candidates with an associate degree in electronics, electrical technology, or a related technical field may also be considered. Equivalent military technical training or substantial hands-on enterprise hardware experience may be accepted in place of a formal degree. Recent technical or engineering graduates with strong foundational knowledge, demonstrable troubleshooting ability, and a willingness to undergo structured training may also be considered for suitable entry-level opportunities, subject to client approval.
