Description
Business Technology Account Manager
Our client is a regulated electric transmission and distribution utility serving customers across Texas. They are a subsidiary of a larger energy holding company and are currently in an aggressive growth phase backed by significant private equity investment. Capital programs are expanding rapidly, headcount is scaling fast, and the demand for technology support across the organization is growing faster than existing resources can keep up with.
The IT organization that supports this utility operates as a shared services model based in another state. The Business Technology Account Manager is the dedicated on site representative who bridges the gap between the Texas based business leadership team and the remote shared services IT organization. They sit with the business every day in Lewisville TX while coordinating across an IT organization in another location. This dual dynamic serving the local business while navigating a remote IT organization with its own priorities and competing demands is the defining challenge of the role. Candidates must be comfortable and effective operating in that environment.
What This Person Does:
Serves as the single point of accountability between VP level business leaders and the shared services IT organization. Triages technology issues, identifies the right owners inside IT, and drives resolution with real timelines and real answers. Tracks active technology programs across the business portfolio and keeps leadership informed on status, risks, and dependencies. Escalates issues that are not moving and advocates for business priorities inside IT planning and governance conversations. Over time proactively identifies technology gaps and brings forward recommendations before problems become fires. This is not a project manager role and it is not a hands on technical role. It is a business relationship management and accountability role that requires someone who can operate as a trusted peer to VP level executives and influence outcomes across a matrixed organization without direct authority.
Who They Work With:
On the business side VP level executives across Operations, Engineering and System Reliability, and Regulatory Services. These executives are highly engaged, tightly aligned, and will have direct and frequent access to the BTAM on a daily basis. On the IT side Enterprise Architecture, PMO, Infrastructure and Client Services, Cybersecurity, and Application teams inside the shared services organization.
Technology Environment:
The candidate will need working familiarity across a broad enterprise technology portfolio. This includes cloud infrastructure, IT service management platforms, enterprise asset management, identity and access management, data and analytics platforms, cybersecurity programs and compliance frameworks relevant to regulated utilities, telecommunications infrastructure, and field operations technology supporting line crews across Texas. Depth in any one area is less important than breadth across all of them.
What We Are Looking For:
Seven or more years in IT business relationship management, technology account management, or a client facing technology leadership role. Demonstrated ability to manage VP level relationships and drive outcomes across a matrixed organization without direct authority. Broad technology fluency conversant across infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and enterprise applications without needing to be a deep technical expert in any one area. Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate technical topics into business language and business needs into technology priorities. Experience in a regulated industry strongly preferred. Must be fully committed to on site presence in Lewisville TX five days a week and genuinely energized by a fast moving high growth environment.
Nice to Haves these will meaningfully differentiate a candidate:
Utility industry experience electric transmission and distribution experience is a significant differentiator and will accelerate credibility with the business leadership team.
Microsoft certification the environment runs heavily on Microsoft infrastructure and any relevant certification is a plus.
Field operations awareness understanding what it means when technology fails for crews working in the field in a safety critical environment.
