DescriptionThe Application Security (AppSec) Engineer serves as the security leader within the software development organization, responsible for embedding security throughout the entire software development lifecycle. This individual partners closely with software engineers, architects, security teams, risk management, compliance, internal audit, and business stakeholders to ensure applications are designed, developed, and maintained securely. The role combines technical responsibilities such as vulnerability management, penetration testing oversight, secure code reviews, security architecture reviews, and vendor software assessments with strategic responsibilities like developer education, secure coding governance, and security program maturation.A significant portion of the role is focused on evaluating and administering application security testing tools, interpreting security findings, and partnering with development teams to remediate vulnerabilities before they reach production. The engineer is expected to establish secure coding standards, conduct ongoing training and awareness sessions, perform code and architecture reviews, and serve as a trusted advisor to development teams on secure design principles. This position also plays an important role in supporting audits, regulatory requirements, and incident response activities while helping the company strengthen its overall Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC).Ultimately, this is less of a traditional infrastructure security position and more of an Application Security and Secure SDLC leadership role. Success will be measured by the organization's ability to reduce application vulnerabilities, improve developer security awareness, standardize secure development practices, strengthen security controls within software design, and build a sustainable application security program that protects highly sensitive customer, insurance, healthcare, and financial data.SkillsApplication security, vulnerability managementTop Skills DetailsApplication security, vulnerability managementAdditional Skills & QualificationsThis position owns the security of internally developed and vendor-supported software across the application lifecycle. The individual will: Lead secure coding initiatives Administer vulnerability scanning and penetration testing tools Review application code for security issues Train developers on secure development practices Conduct architecture and design reviews Evaluate third-party software from a security perspective Support audit and regulatory activities Participate in incident response investigationsCore Focus AreasVulnerability Management / Security Testing 30%Secure Coding Education 20%Code Reviews & Architecture Reviews 25%Security Architecture & Design Patterns 5%Vendor Security Assessments 10%Incident Response & Audit Support 10%Experience LevelExpert Level Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Oklahoma City, OK.
