At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world.
Job Overview
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Stamping provides hands-on technical leadership for stamping processes, progressive die performance, new product introduction, and continuous improvement. This role partners closely with Production, Tool Shop, Quality, Maintenance, Product Engineering, and external suppliers to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and manufacturing capability.
HANDS-ON FLOOR PRESENCE This position requires regular engagement on the production floor with operators, technicians, die mechanics, maintenance, and production leadership to identify problems, troubleshoot equipment and tooling, and implement sustainable improvements.
Job Requirements
New Product Introduction & Engineering Projects
- Collaborate with Product Engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and alignment between product requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Coordinate with suppliers and machine shops for die fabrication, modification, repair, and overhaul.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and deliverables for sustaining engineering and new product introduction initiatives.
- Conduct technical design reviews through the established phase-gate process and provide recommendations to NPI, MDE, and site leadership.
- Organize, manage, and execute Engineering Sample Requests (ESRs), including planning, coordination, execution, documentation, and closure.
Production Support
- Participate in Daily PIM activities and respond to engineering escalations from the manufacturing floor.
- Lead structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis using methods such as 5 Why, Fishbone, and disciplined problem solving.
- Develop and implement corrective actions that improve equipment performance, process capability, throughput, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Use MES, Digital Factory, Hydra, and Microsoft Power BI to analyze production performance, identify recurring losses and trends, develop dashboards, and prioritize improvement opportunities.
- Document, standardize, and sustain implemented process improvements.
Die Maintenance & Improvement
- Provide technical leadership to the Tool Shop and Die Mechanics for die troubleshooting, repair, performance recovery, and continuous improvement.
- Analyze die failures, component life, and tooling consumption to improve tool life, reliability, and total cost of ownership.
- Monitor critical spare tooling availability and usage and support development of appropriate spare-tooling strategies.
- Partner with shop-floor teams to implement improvements using Kaizen and continuous-improvement methodologies.
- Support standardization of die maintenance, repair, and improvement practices.
Quality & Scrap Reduction
- Partner with Quality and Manufacturing to resolve product and process quality issues through the process.
- Lead technical root-cause investigations related to stamping tooling and manufacturing processes.
- Analyze scrap by defect, product, die, press, and failure mode to identify priorities and develop sustainable countermeasures.
- Validate corrective-action effectiveness and establish controls that prevent recurrence.
Productivity & Operational Excellence
- Identify and execute improvement opportunities related to OEE, throughput, cycle rate, supercharging, tooling usage, changeover, downtime, and scrap.
- Develop projects that generate measurable productivity, capacity, and cost savings.
- Use production and equipment data to identify chronic losses and prioritize engineering resources.
- Benchmark best practices across other TE sites and the broader manufacturing industry and implement applicable solutions within the stamping operation.
- Establish before-and-after performance results and verify that improvements are sustained.
