Phlebotomist W2 Contract (Ongoing) Schedule: Up to 15 hours per week | Sundays required + flexible weekday coverage San Diego, CA 92121 $23/hr
About the Role We are seeking an experienced, California-certified Phlebotomist to support our Validation team on a part-time, temporary basis. This hands-on role focuses primarily on blood collection from healthy volunteer donors, accurate documentation, and providing a positive donor experience.
The ideal candidate is a skilled, detail-oriented Phlebotomist who is confident performing venipuncture, comfortable working independently, and flexible with scheduling. This position is focused on blood collection and donor coordination rather than laboratory testing or specimen processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform safe, accurate venipuncture blood draws, collecting approximately 50–100 mL per donor.
- Support up to 12 scheduled donor appointments per day, primarily with returning healthy volunteers.
- Verify donor identification and maintain accurate collection records and associated documentation.
- Follow established blood collection procedures, infection control practices, and safety protocols to ensure donor comfort and specimen integrity.
- Provide a professional, welcoming experience while addressing donor questions and concerns.
- Coordinate donor flow and adjust appointment timing when volunteers arrive early or late.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe blood collection environment.
- Communicate effectively with the Validation Supervisor and team members to support daily operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Active California Phlebotomy Technician certification required.
- 2–4 years of professional phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Strong venipuncture skills and experience collecting blood specimens safely and efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-focused approach.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
Schedule & Availability
- Part-time position averaging up to 15 hours per week.
- Sundays are a regularly scheduled workday and required.
- Additional shifts will vary depending on coverage needs and donor schedules.
- Several days' advance notice will typically be provided for additional coverage.
- Flexibility to accommodate occasional schedule changes is highly valued.
