Original job description

We have an outstanding Contract position for an EHS Specialist/Generalist to join a leading Company located in the Garden City, NY surrounding area.

Pay Rate: $30-$35

We are seeking a EHS Specialist/Generalist to assist with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) documentation, compliance activities, and hands-on safety and continuous-improvement projects throughout the manufacturing facility.

This role is well suited for someone who is organized, technically inclined, and comfortable working directly on the production floor. The successful candidate will balance computer-based documentation and tracking responsibilities with hands-on implementation of safety, Lean, and 5S improvements. The individual should be comfortable taking ownership of projects from initial planning and documentation through material ordering, physical implementation, follow-up, and closeout.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, organize, review, and update EHS documentation, records, forms, checklists, and tracking systems.
  • Support routine safety inspections and facility walkthroughs and assist with preparation for internal and external safety or environmental audits.
  • Document and track safety findings, corrective actions, and compliance-related activities through completion.
  • Review and update EHS procedures, forms, signage, labels, checklists, and visual controls.
  • Order, organize, and maintain safety supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), signage, and related materials.
  • Assist with hands-on facility safety improvements, including the installation or placement of signage, floor markings, barriers, safety stations, PPE storage areas, and spill-response supplies.
  • Coordinate and support Lean Manufacturing and 5S workplace-organization projects within production areas.
  • Develop and implement shadow boards and standardized tool-storage systems, initially supporting welding operations and potentially expanding to other manufacturing departments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workplace organization, visual management, safety, and efficiency.
  • Work closely with operators, supervisors, Maintenance, and EHS personnel to plan, document, implement, and sustain improvements.
  • Track project status, materials, outstanding action items, and completion of assigned improvements.
  • Help ensure completed projects and documentation are organized, clearly communicated, and properly closed out.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in EHS, safety, compliance, quality, manufacturing support, manufacturing documentation, or a related technical environment preferred.
  • Manufacturing, production, or industrial experience with a strong safety mindset.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, tracking, and basic reporting.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing safety, EHS compliance, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous-improvement principles preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable using basic hand tools to complete shop-floor improvement projects.
  • Comfortable working directly in a manufacturing environment and interacting with production employees.
  • Ability to divide time effectively between computer-based administrative work and hands-on shop-floor activities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across manufacturing, Maintenance, EHS, and supervisory functions.

This position requires access to technologies and hardware subject to US national security-based export control requirements. All applicants must be US Persons (8 USC 1324b(a)(3)), or otherwise authorized by the U.S. Government. No company sponsorship will be offered.

Benefits offered vary by contract. Depending on your temporary assignment, benefits may include direct deposit, free career counseling services, 401(k), select paid holidays, short-term disability insurance, skills training, employee referral bonus, and affordable medical coverage plan, and DailyPay (in some locations).
