Original job description
Mountain Ltd. has an opening for a Project Manager to work remotely!
Position Summary Mountain Ltd. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) engineering and deployment projects from initial kickoff through construction-ready delivery and project closeout. This position will be responsible for the overall performance of assigned FTTH projects, including scope, schedule, budget, production, resource planning, client communication, quality, permitting coordination, and final deliverables. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of OSP fiber engineering and the FTTH project lifecycle, including field data collection, high-level and detailed design, feeder and distribution network design, permitting, utility coordination, GIS/CAD production, quality control, and construction support. This aligns with Mountain's existing capabilities across FTTH engineering, field services, permitting, GIS, and program management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple FTTH projects from kickoff through final delivery and closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, production forecasts, resource plans, and key milestones.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the client and Mountain's engineering, fielding, GIS/CAD, permitting, and quality teams.
- Establish clear project objectives, deliverables, production targets, and responsibilities at project kickoff.
- Monitor project performance against scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
- Identify schedule, production, budget, and resource risks early and develop corrective action plans.
- Manage project scope changes and ensure additional work is properly identified, documented, priced, and communicated.
- Conduct regular internal and client-facing project meetings.
- Provide clear reporting on project status, production, budget, schedule, permitting, risks, and upcoming milestones.
- Coordinate internal resources and subcontractors to maintain production goals and delivery commitments.
Permitting & Utility Coordination
- Coordinate permitting activities required to support FTTH construction schedules.
- Track municipal, county, state DOT, utility, railroad, pole attachment, and right-of-way requirements as applicable.
- Coordinate with permitting teams to ensure packages are submitted accurately and on schedule.
- Monitor approval timelines and identify permits that could impact construction releases or overall project milestones.
- Work with engineering teams to address agency comments, utility conflicts, make-ready requirements, and design revisions.
Client & Team Leadership
- Develop strong working relationships with ISP, broadband, utility, and telecom clients.
- Understand client standards, specifications, priorities, and acceptance requirements.
- Communicate project risks and challenges proactively rather than allowing issues to affect delivery.
- Lead cross-functional Mountain teams and establish accountability for schedule, quality, and production.
- Coordinate workloads across engineering, design, fielding, permitting, GIS/CAD, and QA/QC personnel.
- Escalate issues appropriately and work collaboratively with clients to develop solutions.
Financial & Production Management
- Manage projects to established revenue, budget, and profitability expectations.
- Monitor labor utilization, project burn rates, subcontractor costs, and overall project financial performance.
- Forecast staffing requirements based on production commitments and project schedules.
- Track actual production against forecasted production.
- Identify out-of-scope activities and work with leadership to address change orders or additional client authorization.
- Maintain accurate project forecasts and communicate potential budget or schedule variances to leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of telecommunications, broadband, OSP engineering, or FTTH project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing FTTH/FTTx engineering or deployment projects.
- Strong understanding of OSP fiber-optic network design and construction.
- Ability to understand and review FTTH construction drawings, fiber designs, maps, splice information, permit packages, and engineering documentation.
- Experience managing project schedules, budgets, production goals, resources, and client deliverables.
- Experience coordinating multiple disciplines including fielding, engineering/design, permitting, GIS/CAD, and QA/QC.
- Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects or markets simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate project risks before they impact delivery.
Preferred
- Experience managing large-scale FTTH deployments involving thousands of passings.
- Experience working directly with ISPs, broadband providers, municipalities, utilities, or telecommunications carriers.
- Familiarity with aerial and underground OSP construction.
- Understanding of pole attachments, make-ready engineering, easements, ROW, and permitting.
- Familiarity with GIS and fiber-design platforms such as IQGEO, VETRO, 3-GIS, IQGeo, ArcGIS, or similar tools.
- Understanding of NESC requirements and applicable utility construction standards.
- Experience managing internal engineering teams as well as subcontractors.
