Original job description
**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ROLE CAN BE BASD IN EITHER DENVER, CO OR SUNNYVALE, CA**
We Are Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow. You Are You have spent years solving real-world electromagnetic, power, and system-level problems. You know that the difference between a customer who adopts a tool and one who shelves it comes down to whether you can show them the value in their actual design, not a sanitized demo. You are comfortable walking into a room where you are the only one who understands both the physics and the software, and you can translate between those worlds without losing either audience. Running Maxwell, Motor-CAD, Twin Builder, Q3D, or HFSS has become second nature. You have developed instincts about meshing, solver choices, and model fidelity that only come from doing the work over and over in real contexts. When a customer describes a problem, you are already thinking about how to connect component physics to system behavior. You do not need perfect requirements to move forward. You ask the right questions, build a credible workflow, and refine as you learn. At Synopsys, your work will directly influence how mission-critical systems are designed, validated, and certified. What You'll Be Doing
- Serve as the trusted technical advisor to hardware manufacturers across aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors working on electric machines, power electronics, system modeling, and EMC/EMI challenges
- Lead technical evaluations, benchmarks, and proof-of-concept projects using Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, Twin Builder/Simplorer, Q3D Extractor, and high-frequency tools for EMC
- Develop end-to-end multiphysics workflows that connect electromagnetic, thermal, and circuit/system-level analysis, including reduced-order models and digital twins
- Support applications such as electrified actuation, more-electric aircraft power systems, high-power-density motors and generators, power conversion, and platform-level EMC/EMI
- Provide expert technical support, troubleshooting, and best-practice guidance to ensure successful adoption and long-term customer value
- Collaborate with sales, product management, and R&D to communicate customer requirements, drive key enhancements, and shape the product roadmap
- Deliver training, workshops, application notes, and technical presentations at customer sites and industry events, traveling approximately 25% of the time
The Impact You Will Have
- Accelerate adoption of Synopsys simulation solutions across strategic aerospace and defense programs where reliability is non-negotiable
- Help customers reduce physical prototyping and testing cycles through validated, simulation-driven design that holds up under scrutiny
- Strengthen long-term customer partnerships by delivering measurable engineering and business value that changes how they approach design
- Influence product direction with insight from demanding, high-reliability applications where failure is not an option
- Expand the use of integrated multiphysics and system-level workflows across customer organizations, moving them from siloed analysis to connected design
- Build credibility for Synopsys in mission-critical sectors where trust is earned through technical depth, not marketing
- Enable customers to meet certification requirements like DO-160 and MIL-STD with confidence in their simulation results
What You'll Need
- BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in electromagnetic simulation, not just running tools but understanding what the results mean and how to act on them
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following: electric machines, power electronics, system-level simulation, or EMC/EMI analysis
- Hands-on proficiency with Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, Twin Builder/Simplorer, Q3D, HFSS, or equivalent tools in real customer or product contexts
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, circuit and control fundamentals, and multiphysics coupling including thermal and structural effects
- Proven ability to work directly with customers in evaluation, support, and training settings, with excellent presentation and communication skills that work for both engineers and decisionmakers
- U.S. person status required, U.S. permanent resident or green card holder at minimum, U.S. citizenship preferred
- Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time to customer sites for evaluations, reviews, and training
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense standards such as DO-160 and MIL-STD is a plus
- Python/PyAEDT scripting and automation experience is a plus, familiarity with optiSLang or AI-driven design workflows is a plus
Who You Are
- A technical leader who is confident and credible in front of expert engineering audiences, the kind of person who can walk into a room full of PhDs and earn respect in the first ten minutes
- A clear communicator who can explain a complex tradeoff between mesh density and solve time to a VP in two sentences without losing the nuance
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently across multiple accounts and priorities, you do not wait for someone to tell you what to do next
- A collaborative teammate who shares knowledge and mentors others, you know that the best way to scale your impact is to make the people around you better
- Curious and eager to adopt new methods, including AI-enabled simulation workflows, you see new tools as opportunities, not threats
The Team You'll Be Part Of You will join the Electromagnetics, Power & Systems (EMPS) Applications Engineering team, a group of domain experts helping customers design electrified, connected, and sometimes mission-critical systems. The team works closely with sales, product management, and R&D, and plays a direct role in customer success and product innovation.
