Original job description
People Development & Operations Manager
West Loop Veterinary Care · Streeterville and West Loop, Chicago · Full-time
At West Loop Veterinary Care, we believe great medicine starts with a great team. We're looking for a leader to take on two connected responsibilities: owning how our people learn and grow across our entire organization, and serving as the steady, hands-on operational leader at our Streeterville hospital. You'll set the training and development standard for both of our hospitals while running a busy floor day to day. It's a rare chance to shape a growing practice at both the brand level and the ground level.
Growing our people (network-wide)
You’ll own training and development across both of our hospitals. You'll set the standard for how every WLVC team member is trained, developed, and prepared to lead, partnering with our West Loop Practice Manager. You'll:
- Design, run, and continuously improve our phase training and continuing education programs across both hospitals, including the learning calendar, training materials, and multimedia presentations.
- Supervise all training across both hospitals, including technical training delivered by your department trainers. You'll learn our clinical protocols well enough to oversee them, but you won't need to perform them yourself.
- Develop skilled trainers in every department and build a cross-training program.
- Create written development plans for our leads and shift leads, identify future leaders early, and track their growth.
- Build the testing and evaluation processes that show whether training is working and refine it based on the results.
- Take part in interviews, new-hire orientation, and performance evaluations during training.
Leading Streeterville (on site)
You'll partner with our Streeterville Practice Manager and Medical Director as the consistent on-site leader at that location. You will;
- Run the floor: lead daily huddles, make staffing adjustments in real time, uphold standards (including OSHA compliance), and recognize great work as it happens.
- Work alongside department leads to keep everyone accountable to hospital systems, and coach team members through feedback and performance conversations in partnership with HR.
- Build and monitor Streeterville-specific KPIs and make timely operational adjustments.
- Resolve client concerns, maintain relationships with referring and contracted veterinarians, and represent us in the Streeterville neighborhood through local partnerships and community events.
- Keep the hospital running smoothly by managing facility maintenance and vendors, supporting budget tracking, verifying timecards, and assisting with accounts receivable.
Why this role is different
Few positions offer exposure to training design, leadership development, hospital operations, HR, client relations, community marketing, and financial management all at once. You'll work closely with practice leadership, help set the cultural tone at Streeterville, and see the direct impact of your work on the growth of the people around you.
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week: four days on site at Streeterville and one day per week at West Loop, with an 8:00 AM start time. Days at Streeterville are planned around Practice Manager and Medical Director schedules, with priority coverage when the Medical Director is not in the hospital.
What you bring
Required:
- Front desk and client service experience in a veterinary setting (scheduling, client communication, invoicing, records, intake and discharge workflows)
- Working knowledge of veterinary hospital protocols, products and services; strong emotional intelligence and the tact to mediate conflict between clients and staff
- Comfort building and acting on operational data
- The reliability to hold peers to high standards while keeping relationships positive. Clinical skills are not required.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of veterinary industry experience.
Compensation
$70,000–$80,000 per year.
Benefits:
Our employment package for full-time employees includes paid time off, paid holidays, medical, dental and vision insurance, voluntary benefits, pet care discounts, 401K with a true match up to 4%, paid parental leave after two years of service, and more. In addition, all full-time hospital team members receive VSOP® grants, SUVETO’S VETERINARY STOCK OWNERSHIP PLAN, at no cost to team members. VSOP® is an ownership program that tracks the value of the entire Suveto organization.
West Loop Streeterville, part of the Suveto network of hospitals, is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
