At Sunrun, we’re on a mission to change the way the world interacts with energy, and we’re building a company and brand that puts power at the center of life. To do it, we’re designing a dynamic culture where employee development, well-being, and safety come first. It’s why we’ve become the #1 home solar and battery company in America. We’re unlike any other residential energy company. Our vertically integrated model gives us total control over every part of the energy lifecycle – from sale through installation and beyond – so you can find endless opportunities for growth. Come join a career you can grow in and a culture you can run with.
Who We Are We’re on a mission to make energy more reliable and affordable for more people. We provide an opportunity with storage and solar to help people access greater energy independence without the big upfront costs. Sunrun is the largest dedicated residential solar and storage company in the country and has a mission to bring stably priced resilient power to the masses.
As a leader at Sunrun, you’ll bring our leadership principles to life by creating the experience, leading by example, and communicating well & often. You’ll lead by example to integrate AI tools into your daily routines and champion the responsible adoption of AI. Empower your team to explore these tools and build AI skills to improve efficiency and decision quality in their work. You’ll keep score to drive results, develop people to help them grow, and build a deliberate safety-focused culture where our values shine: We Love People, We Love to Create, and We Love to Run. Most importantly, you’ll attract and retain top talent to help Sunrun build the best team on the planet. Together, we run.
POSITION SUMMARY
Sunrun is the undisputed leader in residential clean energy, pioneering the multi-billion-dollar solar-as-a-subscription asset class. We don’t just install solar hardware; we originate, scale, and manage a decentralized energy infrastructure network. By transforming residential roofs into networked virtual power plants and intelligent grid assets, Sunrun is fundamentally rewriting the mechanics of whole-home electrification and energy distribution. Our organization thrives on high-velocity commercial performance, disciplined operational scaling, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining the absolute best talent engine in the climate-tech sector. For executive revenue leaders, Sunrun offers the complexity of an enterprise infrastructure business paired with the agility of a high-growth platform.
We are seeking a highly technical, efficiency-minded Senior Manager of Data Science & Analytics to lead, reshape, and scale our business intelligence and analytics functions. Currently, 20 to 30 analysts are embedded across various business units. You will serve as the single point of leadership to centralize this function, streamline the organization, and uplevel the team. You will be responsible for defining what analytics should be built across Sunrun and how to scale them. This includes leading the rollout of Sunrun’s core Data Hub and centralized SQL layer - establishing metric definitions, governance, and scoring standardizations across the entire company. The ideal candidate brings experience from leading Tech environments (e.g., Meta, Stripe, fast-scaling consumer tech startups) where data directly drives revenue, customer impact, and operational efficiency in fast-moving, unstructured settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Strategy, Centralization & Scale
- Unify & Streamline: Transition 20–30 distributed analysts across the business into a centralized, high-performing analytics org. Lead necessary org restructuring (streamlining down and upleveling capability) to build a lean, high-bar team.
- Thrive in Ambiguity: Build structure where none exists - design agile workflows, intake models, and clear prioritization frameworks to balance executive requests with scalable data products.
- Culture & Mentorship: Elevate analytical talent through hands-on technical coaching, career development, and setting a high technical bar for business intelligence.
Data Hub, SQL Layer & Metric Standardization
- Build the SQL Layer: Partner with Data Engineering on Sunrun's centralized Data Hub initiative. Own the enterprise SQL semantic layer, establishing canonical metrics, labeling standards, and standardized business definitions across all departments.
- Business Scoring & Frameworks: Design unified scoring models and frameworks across sales, consumer acquisition, and operational touchpoints to evaluate business performance accurately.
- Scalable Analytics Architecture: Architect reporting frameworks that scale - moving the company away from ad-hoc spreadsheets toward standardized, automated data products.
Business Partnership & Measurable Impact (Sales & Consumer)
- Drive Commercial Growth: Work closely with Sales, Consumer Experience, and Operations leaders to deliver actionable insights that directly move the needle on unit economics, sales funnel conversion, and customer LTV.
- Focus on Applied Analytics: Deliver practical, high-impact business analytics rather than theoretical or pure R&D data science.
- Executive Storytelling: Translate complex multidimensional data into clear executive dashboards, key performance metrics, and operational recommendations for executive leadership.
REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER SKILLS)
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or Applied Data Science, with 3+ years in a team lead or management role overseeing analysts.
- Tech Background: Proven track record at Big Tech (Meta, Stripe, etc.) or high-growth tech startups known for best-in-class data cultures.
- Technical Rigor:
- Exceptional, expert-level SQL skills and deep understanding of data warehousing architecture (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
- Hands-on experience building/governing a semantic/SQL layer (e.g., using dbt or modern metrics platforms) to standardize enterprise data.
- Proficiency in Python or R for exploratory data analysis and statistical modeling.
- Deep experience with modern BI platforms (Tableau, Looker, Sigma, etc.).
- Efficiency & Results Mindset: Highly focused on efficiency, lean execution, and measurable business outcomes.
- Adaptability: Comfort operating with low structure, wearing multiple hats, and navigating organizational change management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with consumer-facing metrics, multi-channel sales funnels, or operational logistics.
- Background in clean energy, IoT telemetry, or subscription business models.
