The library typically schedules student assistants in two-hour blocks. Students at the Library Access Services Desk work 8-12 hours per week on average. Every student employee is expected to collect library usage data at the beginning of each shift and check in for daily projects. Depending on timing, availability, and interest, some shifts may be designated as "Interlibrary Loan", "Stacks", or "Archives". These shifts are not desk oriented, are often project-based, and require a higher level of attention to detail/critical thinking. Student Assistants that have worked for a semester or more are eligible to apply to be a Library Student Manager.

SUPERVISION:

This position reports to Access Services Staff and indirectly Library Student Managers. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. This position pays $16/hr.

Assist with the operation of printers and other technology located within the library; assist with paper jams; report any ongoing problems to Library Staff.
Accept faculty course reading materials to be added to the personal course readings collection.
Perform stacks related tasks including but not limited to: Tracing/searching for missing library materials, organizing and reshelving library materials, shelf-reading, and inventory.
Facilitate interlibrary loan services by retrieving and scanning library materials and packing or unpacking or sorting mail when requested.
Assist with Library College Archives as assigned
Notify the Access Services Staff of any problems or suggestions related to policies, procedures, or building security.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ithaca College Student; strong attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of personal computers. Candidates that can commit to 2 or more semesters are preferred. Experience working at a library or customer service desk preferred.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR SPRING 2027:

This spring we are especially interested in candidates that can reliably work 11pm-2am shifts, weekends, or are interested in learning the more complicated and detailed processes of Interlibrary Loan. If this sounds like you, please explain your interest and what skills you could offer in your cover letter.

HOW TO APPLY:

Interested applicants must apply online at ithaca.edu/jobs and attach a resume and cover letter. Questions about online applications should be directed to the Office of Human Resources at humanresources@ithaca.edu.
