Shop Mechanic

We are seeking a full-time Shop Mechanic for our Sterling IL location. The shop mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of commercial roofing equipment; the scheduling of routine maintenance; basic repair of heavy equipment, small engine repair and maintaining a clean work environment.

Job Functions:

• Perform preventative and predictive basic maintenance of commercial roofing equipment, vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Small electronic repair
• Diagnosing mechanical problems on equipment and performing the repair
• Small engine repair
• Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment as needed
• Complete maintenance and repair logs
• Communicate with manager on status of work
• Maintain and secure work tools
• Keep a clean and maintained work area
• Monitor inventory and ordering new parts as needed
• Ability to function on a team
• Creative thinking to solve the job problems

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Fleet maintenance and service scheduling
• Small engine repair and maintenance experience
• Automotive repair and maintenance experience
• Heavy equipment basic repair and maintenance experience
• In-depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Valid US Drivers License
• Strong leadership skills
• Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manual
• Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with associates
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Diesel engine repair and maintenance experience
• Certification from a vocational or trade school is preferred
• Hydraulic/pneumatic system experience
• Electronic capabilities
