Original job description

Stellantis’s Vehicle and Propulsion Controls organization is seeking a System Engineer to develop control solutions for next-generation powertrain technologies. Experience in controls or systems engineering and a strong understanding of powertrain systems are valuable; however, continuous learning and a demonstrated ability to deliver effective technical solutions are central to success in this role. Our organization emphasizes ongoing learning and the practical application of knowledge to develop innovative technologies. The successful candidate will address complex technical challenges and deliver solutions that meaningfully improve our products. Collaboration is essential to this work, and the candidate should be comfortable working with diverse, cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. Experienced powertrain development and calibration engineers with an interest in controls development are encouraged to apply.

The System Engineer is responsible for designing and developing requirements for assigned propulsion control features. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead collaboration with global stakeholders to define requirements for new technologies and features across engine, transmission, and electrified propulsion systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to decompose and develop control system requirements.
  • Serve as the technical owner of propulsion control features for Stellantis’s global teams and suppliers.
  • Manage and maintain requirements artifacts for the propulsion control system.
  • Ensure system quality and robustness using tools such as DFMEA and DFSS.
  • Support controls, calibration, and validation teams throughout development and issue resolution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in systems engineering, design engineering, controls development, or calibration.
  • Ability to create logical and physical schematics.
  • Experience authoring requirements and specifications.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Experience, exposure, or training in propulsion systems.
  • Experience applying model-based systems engineering methodologies.
  • Experience using INCA, MATLAB, Simulink, DOORS, and Visio.
  • Experience using CANalyzer or CANoe.
  • Experience with communication networks, including CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
