Original job description
The Advanced Exhaust Engineering Lead drives the early development of advanced exhaust systems by translating emerging vehicle requirements into clear system strategies and architectures. This role shapes innovative Hot End, Cold End, and Aftertreatment solutions, leads cross‑functional alignment, and applies rigorous analysis to ensure every system meets the highest standards for emissions, NVH, thermal performance, durability, and long‑term reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead exhaust system development during the advanced/concept phase.
- Define system strategy, architecture, and layout for new vehicles
- Translate early vehicle emissions, NVH, durability, and thermal targets into system‑level requirements
- Develop Hot End, Cold End, and Aftertreatment System layouts and geometry that meet vehicle objectives
- Collaborate with vehicle, packaging, integration, NVH, and aerothermal teams to negotiate system packaging and resolve tradeoffs
- Provide cross‑functional technical leadership and act as the primary interface for early phase exhaust system development
- Lead early performance simulations including backpressure, NVH, durability/fatigue, and thermal analysis
- Manage system requirements and documentation (functional requirements, specifications, technical reports, DFMEAs, design guidelines)
- Scout, assess, and recommend new exhaust and aftertreatment technologies
- Ensure technical deliverables are aligned with vehicle program timing and milestones
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field
- Minimum of 8 years of automotive engineering experience with a focus on exhaust systems
- Proven experience developing hot and cold end exhaust systems
- Experience with automotive exhaust development processes (DFMEA, DV/PV testing)
- Familiarity with exhaust system analysis tools (CFD, GT-Power, FEA)
- Experience with CAD tools (NX, CATIA, or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Engineering
