Job Description
About Science and Technology Corporation
About Science and Technology Corporation (STC): STC is a U.S. government contractor providing scientific, engineering, and technical support to federal agencies, with deep roots in NOAA, NASA, and DoD programs. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Hampton, VA, STC staff support a growing number of operational missions that monitor the Earth through Earth-observing systems and satellite platforms and through direct field research. STC also researches and investigates leading-edge observing technologies and assesses their applicability to operational missions. STC's NOAA Programs team supports a broad range of operational meteorological, environmental, and geospatial programs.
About the AWIPS HIVE Program
STC is seeking candidates to support the National Weather Service (NWS) on the AWIPS Application Environment contract (commonly referred to as HIVE). AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) is the mission-critical platform used by forecasters at National Weather Service sites nationwide to analyze environmental data and issue the forecasts, watches, and warnings that protect lives and property. Under the HIVE modernization initiative, STC provides engineering and technical talent in direct support of a major cloud transformation effort to move AWIPS from a legacy desktop system to a modern, cloud-native web application built on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The program operates in a collaborative Agile environment and involves migrating complex operational meteorological workflows, tools, and data visualization capabilities to a microservices-based architecture with a React/TypeScript frontend and Java/Spring Boot microservices backend.
About This Role
STC is seeking a Verification Engineer/Quality Assurance specialist to support the National Weather Service (NWS) on the AWIPS Application Environment contract. As a Verification Engineer, you will support human-level validations associated with Gen-AI led test-driven design processes. Your primary responsibility will be to help ensure that AI-generated outputs are thoroughly evaluated and consistently align with established system expectations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify discrepancies, analyze results, and support validation strategies that maintain system integrity and reliability. This role requires strong attention to detail and an interest in quality assurance, testing, and modern software development practices. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative Agile environment supporting operational weather systems and AI-assisted development workflows.
Specific Duties Will Include
• Support human-level validations for Gen-AI led test-driven design processes
• Ensure AI-generated outputs consistently align with system expectations
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine and validate AI-driven solutions
• Identify and report discrepancies between AI outputs and desired system behaviors
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of verification methodologies and tools
• Assist with developing and executing test cases and validation activities
• Support troubleshooting and analysis of system behaviors and validation results
• Maintain traceability documentation for test coverage and verification outcomes
Job Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
• 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance, testing, or verification and validation
• Understanding of QA fundamentals, test-driven methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with automated testing tools and version control systems
• Ability to identify, document, and report software defects and system discrepancies
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to rigorous testing practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with AI/ML output evaluation or Gen-AI test validation workflows
• Familiarity with advanced validation frameworks or AI model evaluation platforms
• Experience with VCRM-style traceability or requirements-driven test coverage
• Knowledge of Python or scripting for automated test harness development
• Jira and Confluence proficiency for defect tracking and documentation
• Exposure to NOAA, NWS, or other geospatial/earth science data platforms
• Experience with distributed system testing or cloud-native application validation
Work Arrangement
