Job Description

About STC

STC is a science, sensors, and systems company founded in 1979. We continually expand our Earth and Space Sciences support capabilities to NASA, NOAA, DoD, and other Federal and State agencies. Our staff support many of the operational missions that monitor the heartbeat of our planet through a growing number of Earth Observing System of Systems platforms and direct field research. We also research and investigate leading-edge observing technologies and assist in their integration into operations.

STC offers competitive benefits to include health, dental, vision, FSA, life, disability, 401K (matching), tuition reimbursement, bonus/incentive programs, and various other plans.

Overview

The EOSDIS Evolution and Development (EED) program supports NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) in enabling global, open access to critical Earth observation data. As part of its growing EED support team, STC is seeking a Senior UX System Operator/Developer to support the Consolidated Cumulus User Experience (Dashboard) team.

The Senior UX System Operator/Developer is a senior technical implementer responsible for the foundational monitoring, operations, and infrastructure development of the Cumulus Dashboard system. This role combines active software development with hands-on operational responsibility - building scalable Dashboard infrastructure, handling UX support requests, monitoring system performance, and ensuring SLA compliance through CI/CD pipelines and proactive incident response. This role reports to the Consolidated Cumulus UX Product Owner.

Primary Responsibilities

Design, develop, and continuously improve foundational Cumulus Dashboard software to ensure scalable operations and throughput optimization.
Develop and optimize Cumulus Dashboard software, including internal libraries and APIs.
Integrate advanced data backup and preservation technologies into the infrastructure, utilizing AWS S3 versioning, locking, and cross-region/cross-cloud strategies.
Produce and manage comprehensive software documentation for all developed features.
Integrate technical requirements and inputs from the Systems Architect, Systems Engineer, and Cloud-Infrastructure Engineer.
Ensure all architectural and infrastructure designs maintain strict adherence to documented SLAs.
Execute CI/CD, system testing, and performance testing for all Cumulus Dashboard software updates.
Maintain standards-driven CI/CD pipelines and provide automated testing support.
Maintain comprehensive software documentation and automated unit/integration tests for all new platform features.
Perform system sustainment tasks, including security updates and Cumulus system health monitoring.
Address bugs or issues in accordance with the SLA.
Perform deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurring technical failures.
Proactively communicate system status and resolution progress to the UX Product Owner, Operations Manager, and Data Operations Team Leads.

In addition to the UX Developer duties above, the Senior UX System Operator/Developer is specifically responsible for:

Monitoring system health, performance metrics, and operational status of the Cumulus Dashboard environment.
Handling UX operational support requests and driving timely resolution in accordance with SLA commitments.
Developing and maintaining operational runbooks, monitoring dashboards, and automated alerting capabilities for the Dashboard environment.

Job Requirements

6+ years' software engineering experience, including Agile development (preferably Scrum or SAFe), using the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo), and developing on MacOS X and deploying to Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Expert-level experience with AWS infrastructure, specifically S3 data management (versioning, locking, cross-region architectures), Lambda, Step Functions, and RDS
Proven track record in developing and optimizing core libraries, APIs, and complex software systems
Demonstrated commitment to automated testing, CI/CD integration, and rigorous documentation standards
Proficiency in root cause analysis for high-level system errors and infrastructure bottlenecks
Programming proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, TypeScript, and Terraform; experience with automated testing frameworks such as Ava
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

Desired Skills and Experience

Python and React
Experience developing with AI/ML tools or frameworks

Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident / Green Card holder.
