THE COMPANY:
STACK INFRASTRUCTURE (STACK) provides digital infrastructure to scale the world’s most innovative companies. We are an award-winning industry leader in building, owning, and operating highly efficient, cost-effective wholesale, colocation, and cloud data centers. Each of our national facilities meets or exceeds the highest industry standards in all operational categories of availability, security, connectivity, and physical resilience.
STACK offers the scale and geographic reach that rapidly growing hyperscale and enterprise companies need. The world runs on data. Data runs on STACK.
THE POSITION:
STACK is looking for a Director of Reliability Engineering who will serve as a senior technical authority for the reliability, resiliency, and lifecycle performance of critical infrastructure across STACK's portfolio. This role will provide enterprise-level technical leadership on complex and systemic reliability risks and help establish the strategies, standards, and engineering practices used to improve infrastructure performance and reduce repeat failures. The position requires deep technical expertise, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to influence technical and strategic decisions across the organization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a senior technical authority on infrastructure reliability, providing technical direction and judgment on complex, high-consequence, or systemic reliability issues.
- Establish and advance reliability engineering strategies, standards, methodologies, and technical practices appropriate to STACK's operating environment and maturity.
- Provide technical governance for significant root cause investigations and systemic failure analysis, ensuring findings appropriately address equipment, design, maintenance, process, and operational contributors.
- Identify patterns across incidents, equipment performance, maintenance findings, and operating experience to identify portfolio-level exposure and prioritize systemic risk reduction.
- Establish the technical basis for maintenance strategy, including asset criticality, failure modes, equipment performance, maintenance effectiveness, OEM requirements, and operating experience.
- Develop and advance frameworks for asset health, lifecycle risk, obsolescence, end-of-life exposure, and reliability-based renewal planning.
- Translate reliability findings and operating experience into recommendations for equipment specifications, design standards, commissioning practices, maintainability, operability, and infrastructure turnover.
- Establish technical positions and recommendations for systemic OEM, vendor, equipment, and infrastructure reliability issues where competing technical or business considerations require senior engineering judgment.
- Advise Operations and Technical Operations leadership on infrastructure reliability risk, maintenance strategy, lifecycle decisions, investment priorities, and opportunities to improve portfolio performance.
- Partner across Operations, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Supply Chain, Finance, OEMs, and vendors to drive resolution of reliability risks at the appropriate organizational level.
- Advance the organization's application of reliability engineering methodologies, including FMEA, criticality analysis, RCM principles, failure trending, and other appropriate analytical approaches.
- Develop technical guidance and provide mentorship to reliability engineering and operational personnel to strengthen engineering rigor, reliability thinking, and technical problem-solving across the organization.
- Develop and support technical recommendations and business cases for reliability improvements, equipment remediation, lifecycle investment, and capital renewal based on technical risk and expected operational benefit.
