Overview

The Senior Software Engineer - Software Engineering owns one or more services or major feature areas from design through production operations. This role translates ambiguous requirements into clear technical solutions, designs reliable APIs and service boundaries, integrates internal and external systems, and mentors less-experienced engineers. The role reports to our Store Support Office in Phoenix, AZ, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring in-office presence Tuesday through Thursday.

Overview of Responsibilities

• Own one or more services or major feature areas end to end.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical designs and implementation plans.
• Design APIs, data contracts, service boundaries, and event-driven integration patterns.
• Build and operate reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-native services.
• Own service reliability, performance, observability, and technical debt.
• Integrate third-party market-intelligence or business data sources using stable, versioned contracts.
• Account for data-licensing constraints when designing external data integrations.
• Lead code reviews and design discussions and mentor associate and mid-level software engineers.
• Operate production systems and lead incident response and root-cause analysis within the assigned area.
• Influence team standards and delivery practices through pragmatic technical leadership.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including end-to-end service or feature ownership.
• Production proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, TypeScript, or equivalent.
• Experience designing microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven systems.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores.
• Experience with Kafka or an equivalent streaming or messaging platform.
• Experience with cloud-native deployments on AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes fundamentals.
• Track record of mentoring less-experienced software engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with domain-driven design, GraphQL, feature flags, or experimentation platforms.
• Experience with performance tuning, profiling, and distributed tracing.
• Experience integrating third-party data vendors and managing versioned API contracts.
• Retail or merchandising domain familiarity.
