Original job description
Overview
Sprout is a global IT hardware retirement provider for hyperscaler and enterprise clients. We leverage a nationwide footprint (and international partner network) combined with proprietary software to enable efficient end-to-end IT asset disposition with a focus on data-bearing devices from the client to the cloud. The company is headquartered in Charlotte, NC with additional operations near Sacramento, Dallas, and Boston. Sprout provides software and services to clients in the form of our IT Asset Disposition, Certified Destruction, and Responsible Recycling solutions.
Since our founding as an electronic waste startup from a Duke University dorm room in 2014, we have been expanding at an average rate of >66% each year. By adhering to our 3 values (One Sprout, Deliver Excellence, and Integrity Matters), we are proud of our culture to move at #SproutSpeed to become the emerging leader in our industry. For more information, please visit: www.sproutup.com.
Sprout is hiring a Pricing Analyst to turn customer equipment lists into fast, defensible fair market values that win deals for our Business Development and Outbound Sales teams. Sprout is an IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) company. Our customers and partners send us inbound equipment lists - laptops, mobile devices, and data center infrastructure - and our sellers need accurate pricing to quote, negotiate, and close. You will own that pricing. You will track secondary-market demand across every major IT asset class, from end-user devices down to components like RAM, storage, CPUs, and GPUs. You will also support our Ecommerce division, adjusting resale pricing as market conditions shift. And you will help us price faster by building better processes and putting AI tools like Claude to work.
Responsibilities
Price inbound equipment lists
- Analyze customer and partner asset lists and deliver fair market value (FMV) pricing to the Business Development team on tight turnaround
- Value laptops, mobile devices, and server infrastructure, including component-level pricing for RAM, storage, CPUs, and GPUs
- Clean and normalize messy lists - inconsistent model names, missing specs, mixed condition grades - before pricing them
- Factor in condition, configuration, age, and quantity, and flag assets with negligible or negative value (recycle-only) early
- Follow up on open quotes internally and with customers and partners until they close or expire
Track the secondary market
- Monitor secondary-market demand, resale prices, and supply trends across all IT technology categories
- Watch for events that move prices: new product launches, OEM end-of-life announcements, Windows and OS lifecycle dates, and AI-driven demand for GPUs and high-memory servers
- Contact buyers of niche or specialty equipment to gather real-world pricing
- Publish a monthly market update and report pricing trends on core products to sales leadership
- Compare quoted values to actual resale results and use the gap to sharpen future pricing
Support Product Sales and Ecommerce
- Support the Product Sales team with daily orders and customer pricing requests
- Partner with the Ecommerce leader on market trends, top-selling platforms, and inventory velocity
- Adjust Ecommerce asset pricing to reflect market conditions and aging inventory
Make pricing faster and more consistent
- Own and maintain Sprout's pricing data so every seller works from current numbers
- Build repeatable Excel models, templates, and reference tables that cut quote turnaround time
- Use Claude and other AI tools to speed up list cleanup, research, and analysis, and help teammates do the same
- Work with Sales, Operations, and Finance to streamline the pricing workflow end to end
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in finance, economics, business analytics, or a related field
- 2+ years in an analytical role supporting a sales organization
- Advanced Excel: pivot tables, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, conditional formatting, data validation, and building clean, reusable models
- Hands-on, daily use of Claude or similar AI tools for analysis and research - bring an example of how you've used it to save time
- Working knowledge of IT hardware: you can read a spec sheet and know why an i7 differs from an i5, or why an H100 differs from an A100
- Strong organization and a track record of hitting tight, overlapping deadlines
- Clear written communication - you can explain a valuation and its assumptions to a seller in a few sentences
- High attention to detail; one wrong model number can swing a quote by thousands of dollars
- Proven record of strong academic or professional performance
Nice to have
- Experience in ITAD, IT reselling, refurbishment, or secondary-market hardware trading
- Familiarity with pricing sources and marketplaces such as eBay sold listings, Amazon, Back Market, and wholesale broker channels
- Understanding of device grading (A/B/C/D), testing results, and how condition affects value
- Knowledge of what drives value in data center gear: CPU generation, core count, memory density, drive type, and GPU model
- SQL, Power Query, or BI tools (Metabase, Power BI) for pulling and analyzing historical sales data
- Basic understanding of how logistics, processing, and data-destruction costs net against asset value
