Original job description

Application Engineer Composed of Chromalox, Durex Industries, Vulcanic, and Thermocoax businesses, Electrical Thermal Solutions (ETS), part of Spirax Group, creates electrical process heating and temperature management solutions, including industrial heaters and systems, heat tracing, and a range of component technologies. At Chromalox, we build advanced thermal technologies for the world’s most challenging industrial heating applications. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we got our start with an innovative solution 100 years ago when a self-taught engineer invented the first metal-sheathed resistance heating element. It was this then-advanced thermal technology that launched an entire industry. We excel in industries that have high expectations. We are acknowledged as experts at delivering solutions that exceed specifications, limit risk, and reduce operating costs. Join us as we continue to provide solutions to our customers and the world!

The Role:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Application Engineering, the Application Engineer will analyze heating applications to design innovative, customer-focused solutions.

You will work on customer quotes to develop cost-effective solutions for each unique heating and temperature control application. The Associate Application Engineer position is vital in providing technical support to our sales team and will partner with design engineering to give design and order support across the organization.

Your Responsibilities:

Design and quote premium solutions for standard and customer-specific thermal applications.
Coordinate quotation and order entry activities with sales force, estimation, engineering, and plant personnel, including sample orders and drawings for approval.
Understand markets and competition in each market to manage quotations of competitive designs.
Review terms and conditions, customer drawings, and specification packages to identify key requirements of the customer request.
Assist sales engineers with expertise in offering optimal thermal solutions for unique applications.
Determine materials and related cost requirements for product designs by working with engineering, estimation, and purchasing departments.
Manage pricing and margin targets for crucial accounts and new opportunities.
Become proficient in using product design and pricing tools.
Assist customers and representatives in troubleshooting common problems with equipment or applications.
Strategically partner with design engineering and sales to be vital in designing and order support.
Lead meetings with engineering, estimation, production, project management, finance, and sales to gain visibility and communicate accurate dates to customers for large order opportunities.
Assist in documenting, analyzing, and improving processes.
Support or facilitate process improvement projects and strategic projects as required.

Requirements:

We are interested in candidates with varied experience levels for this role and welcome applicants ranging from early-career to seasoned engineers.
At least 1-3 years of related experience; an appropriate technical degree or equivalent experience is required.
A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering is preferred.
Working experience with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in verbal, written, and presentation formats to all audiences.
Strong customer service and time management skills.

At Chromalox, we are not just an employer but a champion of equal opportunities and inclusivity. We are dedicated to fostering a workplace that adheres to the highest hiring standards and is free from discrimination and harassment.

Chromalox is an equal opportunity employer; our commitment extends to all aspects of employment, ensuring that no individual is mistreated or discriminated against based on race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristic as defined by federal, state, or local laws.
