Original job description
The Wire Harness Process Engineer is a hands-on technical role focused on translating customer engineering drawings into high-quality manufactured wire harnesses and cable assemblies. This position serves as the critical bridge between engineering, quality, and shop-floor manufacturing-troubleshooting processes, developing clear work instructions, and ensuring on-time, defect-free production in an active manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing & Process Support: Review engineering drawings, interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs), and develop standard manufacturing instructions and production layouts. Shop-Floor Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues with manufacturing equipment, assembly processes, and production line bottlenecks to maintain smooth, continuous workflow. Quality & Root Cause Analysis: Partner with the Quality team on PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), First Article Inspection (FAI), capability analyses, 8D corrective actions, and 5-Why problem-solving investigations. Documentation: Create, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assembly routers, and testing protocols. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement practical solutions to improve floor safety, reduce cycle times, and boost overall product yield. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical point of contact across production operators, quality personnel, leadership, and customer technical teams.
Working hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Skills:
Testing Systems: Hands-on experience with Dynalab wire harness electrical testing equipment and programming.
Fixture Fabrication: Familiarity with designing and assembling mating adapters and functional test fixtures.
Lean Manufacturing: Background in Lean methodologies, 5S workplace organization, continuous improvement (CI), and formal quality management systems.
Education:
Bachelors
Experience:
4-7 years
Qualifications:
CAD Proficiency: Experience using 2D CAD software to design manufacturing drawings, wire harness board layouts, and assembly aids.
Blueprint & Schematic Literacy: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and BOM structures.
Practical Problem Solving: Proven analytical and troubleshooting capabilities in an active manufacturing environment.
Technical Communication: Ability to convey technical specifications and process instructions clearly to floor technicians, peers, and clients.
Proactive Work Style: Self-starter mindset with a hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a high-mix production environment.
