We are seeking a motivated Cloud Data Engineer to help build and support a next-generation security data platform on AWS. The platform will provide the data foundation for modern security analytics, detection, and incident response capabilities by consolidating security telemetry into an AWS-based data lake. This is a data engineering role with a security focus. The successful candidate will work with experienced engineers and security partners to develop data ingestion pipelines, improve data quality, automate repeatable processes, and support reliable access to security data. Hands-on exposure to AWS, Python, data pipelines, or cloud-based analytics is important. Security experience is helpful but not required. What You'll Do Data Pipeline Development and Support
- Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines that feed an AWS-based security data lake, with guidance from senior engineers and platform architects.
- Assist with collecting, parsing, transforming, and routing log and telemetry data from endpoint, cloud, network, identity, and SaaS sources.
- Work with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Athena, IAM, and Lambda to support data storage, processing, access, and analysis.
- Monitor pipelines and troubleshoot common issues involving failed ingestion, data quality, latency, schema changes, or missing data.
- Help document data sources, schemas, pipeline configurations, operational procedures, and support requirements.
Cloud Automation and Platform Operations
- Develop and maintain Python or shell scripts that automate ingestion, enrichment, validation, and routine platform operations.
- Contribute to event-driven workflows using services such as Lambda, EventBridge, or Step Functions.
- Use infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to deploy and maintain cloud resources under established engineering standards.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and operational support for platform changes.
- Gain exposure to Azure telemetry sources, such as Event Hubs or Log Analytics, where needed for cross-cloud ingestion.
Security and Data Access
- Follow established security controls for access management, encryption, logging, and protection of security data.
- Support implementation and testing of IAM policies and data-access configurations.
- Partner with Incident Response and Detection Engineering to understand data requirements and support investigations and analytics.
- Help ensure security teams have timely, reliable access to relevant telemetry during active investigations.
- Collaboration and Development
- Work collaboratively with cloud, data, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver and support platform capabilities.
- Communicate progress, risks, technical issues, and support needs clearly.
- Learn the organization’s security telemetry, cloud architecture, engineering practices, and development standards.
- Continuously build technical depth in cloud data engineering, automation, security data, and platform reliability.
What We're Looking For Experience
- 1–3 years of relevant professional, internship, co-op, academic, or project experience in data engineering, cloud engineering, software engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on exposure to AWS and one or more services such as S3, Glue, Athena, IAM, Lambda, or EventBridge.
- Experience writing Python and/or shell scripts for data processing, automation, or systems integration.
- Basic experience with data pipelines, APIs, structured or semi-structured data, SQL, or cloud storage.
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation is preferred.
- Exposure to logging, security telemetry, SIEM platforms, Azure, or log collection tools such as Fluent Bit is a plus, but not required.
Skills
- Foundational understanding of data ingestion, transformation, storage, and query concepts.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues methodically and seek guidance when appropriate.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and develop cloud and data engineering skills.
- Attention to detail, particularly when validating data completeness, quality, and reliability.
- Ability to work collaboratively, receive feedback, and communicate technical information clearly.
- Interest in cybersecurity, security analytics, incident response, or detection engineering.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Entry-level AWS certification, relevant cloud coursework, or demonstrated hands-on cloud projects are advantageous but not required.
Role Scope
- This role contributes to the platform under established architecture, engineering standards, and technical direction. It is not expected to independently own enterprise architecture, make platform-wide design decisions, or lead the end-to-end security data strate
