Job Description
About the Opportunity Our customers count on Solaris power to keep their operations running, and when a unit trips, they feel it right away. As a Reliability Engineer, your job is to make sure that rarely happens, and to get to the root cause when it does. You will be the person site teams, equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and leadership rely on for a clear picture of how your assigned equipment is performing and what to do about it. You will own the reliability, availability, and lifecycle management of an assigned bank of power-generation assets: gas turbines, generators, SCR and emissions systems, balance-of-plant equipment and switchgear. As a site-aligned generalist, you are the technical point for reliability related concerns on those assets. You will go deep where a problem demands it, bring in the right specialists, and stay with an issue until the fix is proven and the lesson is shared to prevent future recurrences. Our goal is to build a proactive repair and maintenance strategy across our power generation assets, and you will be on the front line of that effort. You will monitor your equipment remotely, catch the trends that matter before they become outages, and partner with our data-science team to turn what the machines are telling us into sharper alerts, models and dashboards. Most of your time will be spent working to remotely monitor and analyze your assets. Our Reliability Engineers support site teams, with about 30-40% travel to the equipment’s location at your assigned facilities. A typical week might include:
- Reviewing alerts and trends across your assets and deciding which need action now, which need watching, and which are noise.
- Troubleshooting a trip or derate with a site team, remotely or on site, using OEM and in-house monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Leading a root cause analysis and turning the findings into corrective actions that maintenance planners can triage.
- Assessing a new OEM service bulletin and agreeing on an implementation plan with operations and maintenance teams.
- Shaping the scope of critical spares for an assigned facility.
- Building the technical case for a warranty claim and verifying that the OEM’s fix holds.
- Working with OEMs and Solaris leaders to plan CAPEX for overhauls and major equipment milestones.
You will report to the Reliability Manager and work daily with Operations, maintenance planners, Supply Chain, OEM representatives and our data-science team. You will have a real voice in how Solaris maintains its equipment, from maintenance intervals and overhaul scope to critical spares and OPEX/CAPEX planning. As a technical expert in the engineering organization for field issues, your impact will reach well beyond your own assigned asset base. What Success Looks Like Fewer surprise outages and repeat failures, faster and cleaner returns to service, service bulletins closed on time, warranty claims backed by strong technical evidence, and a growing body of lessons learned that makes the whole fleet more reliable. Because our Reliability Organization is growing, you will also help set the standard for how reliability is done at Solaris. Essential Functions Own Asset-Bank Reliability
- Own reliability, availability, MTBF, forced-outage rate and health scores for the equipment in an assigned asset base (turbines, generators, SCR systems, balance of plant, switchgear, etc.).
- Remotely monitor PLC/SCADA data; triage alerts and decide when proactive intervention is required.
- Maintain a risk-ranked list of bad actors, repeat failures, aging components and open reliability actions.
- Partner with the data-science team on data cleansing, anomaly models, alert thresholds and dashboards.
- Report performance through fleet performance reports, KPI dashboards and leadership reliability reviews.
- Interface with OEM representatives to drive improvements in the assigned asset base.
Troubleshoot and Support the Field
- Remote and on-site troubleshooting across turbine, generator, emissions, electrical and balance-of-plant systems, using OEM and in-house monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Serve as the technical escalation point in the engineering organization for field facing issues that may affect similar installations.
- Provide technical input on planned maintenance, overhauls, forced outages, return-to-service decisions, and post-event reviews.
Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause analysis on trips, forced outages and repeat failures; document findings and track corrective actions to closure.
- Build and maintain an action items database for assigned equipment and feed the required tasks to maintenance planners to proactively improve equipment performance and durability.
- Take lessons learned to/from OEMs and Engineering to drive product-design and plant-standardization improvements.
OEM Service Bulletins and Compliance
- Review every OEM service bulletin and advisory documents that apply to the assigned assets; assess risk and drive actions with operations and maintenance teams.
- Own the bulletin compliance log for your assets and report status to the Reliability Manager.
Maintenance Planning and Lifecycle
- Advise maintenance planners on bulletin-driven PM changes, condition-based maintenance intervals and the added scope outside of standard routine maintenance.
- Use root cause findings and condition data to shape overhaul scope and timing, and OPEX/CAPEX forecasts.
- Identify critical spare parts required to maintain adequate reliability and availability for the assigned asset base.
- Support CMMS data quality and ensure critical intervention data is captured and stored.
- Supply reliability data to lifecycle-cost models and consult with Solaris’ maintenance-program strategy.
Warranty and Vendors
- Own the technical and root cause side of warranty claims (failure analysis, evidence, downtime impact and verification of the OEM remedy) and support through closure.
- Set technical quality standards for third-party maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) vendors and review their work.
- Verify OEM technical deliverables against specification.
