Original job description
Enterprise AI is moving from pilots to production, and the constraint is no longer the model - it's the data. Agents are only as good as what they can sense, trust, and act on in the moment, and real-time, event-driven data is becoming the foundation every serious AI system runs on.
Solace is the leading real-time data platform for the enterprise AI era. Established enterprises worldwide - including RBC Capital Markets, Bosch, Heineken, PSA Singapore, United Airlines, Schwarz Group, and hundreds more - have built their business around Solace to enable intelligent, real-time experiences, modernize their application and integration landscape, and create seamless digital journeys for their customers, partners, and employees.
So, the next time you drive a car, order furniture online, fly in a plane, check your bank balance on your phone, your positive experience could be a direct result of our technology - and your hard work!
About the Role
This position is for a Platform Engineer on the Cloud Infrastructure team within Solace's Engineering Platform group. You will help build, deploy, and operate the platform that runs Solace Cloud, with a particular focus on self-managed deployments: instances of Solace Cloud that run inside a customer's own cloud account, in a sovereign or regional cloud, or in a US Government environment such as a FedRAMP-authorized region.
The role blends two things. Day to day, you will work as a platform engineer alongside the rest of the Cloud Infrastructure team: Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, Helm, CI/CD, secrets management, identity and access, and the automation that lets us provision and upgrade clusters reliably across AWS, Azure, and GCP. You will also carry a production engineering responsibility for the environments we deploy, which means owning their operational health, participating in incident response, and continuously improving runbooks, observability, and upgrade paths.
As Solace grows its footprint in regulated and government markets, this role is expected to move further toward a deploy-forward engineering profile: standing up and managing self-managed Solace Cloud deployments in government clouds, working through FedRAMP and related compliance requirements, and acting as the technical bridge between Solace engineering and the customer environments our platform runs in.
What You’ll Do
- Deploy, operate, and upgrade self-managed Solace Cloud environments in customer-controlled accounts, sovereign clouds, and US Government clouds (for example AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and GCP Assured Workloads), including air-gapped and egress-restricted deployments.
- Design, build, and maintain the infrastructure-as-code, Helm charts, and automation that provision Kubernetes clusters (EKS, AKS, GKE, and alternative Kubernetes distributions) and the platform services that run on them.
- Own the operational health of the environments you deploy: monitoring and alerting, capacity, patching, cluster lifecycle and Kubernetes version upgrades, database operations, and backup and recovery.
- Participate in production support and incident response, drive root-cause analysis, and turn findings into durable fixes, runbooks, and automation.
- Implement and maintain security baselines for regulated environments: hardened images, FIPS-validated cryptography, restricted RBAC, network segmentation, private connectivity (VPN, private link, hub-and-spoke routing), and secrets management with HashiCorp Vault.
- Contribute to FedRAMP and related compliance efforts by implementing technical controls, producing evidence, supporting audits, and keeping documentation current.
- Work directly with customer platform and security teams during deployments and upgrades, translating their constraints into supportable configurations and feeding what you learn back into the product.
- Build and extend CI/CD pipelines and automated test coverage for infrastructure and platform code.
- Contribute to platform microservices in Java / Spring Boot where infrastructure and application boundaries meet, following agile software development practices.
- Communicate with the team through design reviews, demos, and documentation, and mentor others on self-managed and government deployment patterns.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Because this role supports US Government and FedRAMP-related work, candidates must be US citizens and eligible for Security clearance is required.
- BS degree in Software, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or production engineering roles, with hands-on ownership of production systems.
- Deep, practical Kubernetes expertise: cluster provisioning and lifecycle, networking (CNI, ingress, service mesh basics), storage (CSI), RBAC, autoscaling, and troubleshooting workloads in managed and self-hosted distributions.
- Proficiency with infrastructure as code using Terraform, and with packaging and deploying applications with Helm.
- Strong Linux fundamentals and cloud networking knowledge (VPC/VNet design, routing, load balancers, VPN and private connectivity, DNS, TLS/PKI).
- Experience in at least two of AWS, Azure, and GCP, including their government or sovereign variants, or a demonstrated ability to ramp quickly on a new provider.
- Working knowledge of FedRAMP (Moderate or High), NIST SP 800-53, FIPS 140-2/140-3, and hardening standards such as CIS Benchmarks or DISA STIGs, and experience implementing or evidencing controls in a cloud environment.
- Experience managing secrets, credentials, and certificates with HashiCorp Vault or similar tools.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and writing automated tests for infrastructure and services (unit, integration, functional, performance).
- Comfortable scripting and coding in at least one general-purpose language (Go, Python, or Java); able to read and contribute to Java / Spring Boot services.
- Experience operating relational and search databases in production (for example MySQL and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch).
- Comfortable working directly with customers and government stakeholders, explaining technical decisions clearly and concisely.
- A self-starter who thrives with ambiguity, documents as they go, and collaborates well within cross-functional teams.
- US citizenship is required for this position due to US Government and FedRAMP customer requirements.
Nice to have Skills
- Prior experience deploying or operating SaaS platforms inside customer-owned accounts, sovereign clouds, or air-gapped environments, including private container registry mirroring and offline image distribution.
- Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, GCP Assured Workloads, or DoD Impact Level environments.
- Experience supporting a FedRAMP authorization (3PAO assessment, SSP authoring, POA&M management, continuous monitoring).
- Experience with OpenStack-based or other non-hyperscaler Kubernetes platforms.
- Experience with application performance monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana, including operating them under data-residency constraints.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and event brokers such as Solace, Kafka, or SNS.
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt).
- Experience with microservices design patterns and REST API development.
- Experience with JavaScript client frameworks (React, Angular, Aurelia).
- Relevant certifications such as CKA, CKAD, CKS, or cloud provider professional-level certifications.
