THE ROLE
Sofidel UK has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and ambitious Mechanical Engineer to join our Papermill team.
Working Monday to Friday on a day-shift pattern (alternating between 08:00–16:00 and 10:00–18:00), with every fourth Friday off, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your engineering skills and build your career within a busy manufacturing environment.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability and performance of our papermaking machinery. Working as part of the engineering team, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, diagnose and resolve mechanical faults, and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, plant efficiency and overall performance.
This is a varied, hands-on role offering plenty of opportunity to learn, develop and make a real contribution to the ongoing success of our operation.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Carry out routine, preventative and breakdown maintenance on paper machines, pulpers, rollers, conveyors and auxiliary equipment, including bearings, seals, pumps and motors.
• Participate in planned and unplanned plant shutdowns, providing engineering support as required.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and participate in a rotational out-of-hours call-out system.
• Ensure mechanical equipment and maintenance standards are consistently maintained to a high standard.
• Diagnose mechanical faults, dismantle, inspect, repair and replace defective components using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Interpret technical engineering drawings, schematics and OEM manuals accurately to troubleshoot faults, identify and cross-reference replacement parts, and carry out repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Monitor machinery during operation, identifying potential faults or abnormalities through observation, listening and the use of appropriate testing and measuring equipment.
• Fit, assemble, grind, shape, weld, heat and cut metal components as required for maintenance and repair activities.
• Identify and contribute to quality improvements, cost reductions and increased productivity across the plant.
• Support production teams in understanding and carrying out basic preventative maintenance practices to help minimise equipment downtime.
• Complete daily and weekly equipment inspection checklists and accurately record maintenance activities using computerised maintenance systems, including SAP.
• Follow established Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and equipment isolation protocols to ensure machinery is safely isolated before maintenance work is undertaken.
• Assist with the assembly, installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation as required.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the working area throughout the shift.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
