This part-time, nonexempt employee position combines hands-on cooking with café upkeep, grocery purchasing, menu planning, and inventory organization. Experience preparing authentic traditional Chinese cuisine is strongly preferred, followed by experience with other Asian, American, and international dishes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, culinary versatility, and the ability to independently maintain a clean, welcoming, and efficiently operated office kitchen. The weekly schedule will generally include 3–4 days of meal preparation and service and 1–2 days dedicated to grocery purchasing, deliveries, inventory, menu planning, and kitchen organization. Employee lunch service generally begins around 1:00 PM. The schedule may be adjusted based on operational needs and approved executive meal requests.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Meal Preparation & Service
  • Employee Lunches: Prepare and serve fresh, appealing complimentary lunches for approximately 15–20 employees on 3–4 designated days per week.
  • Menu Variety: Develop rotating weekly menus prioritizing traditional Chinese cuisine, followed by other Asian, American, and international dishes.
  • Culinary Quality: Prepare flavorful, well-balanced meals using appropriate ingredients, cooking techniques, and presentation standards.
  • Dietary Awareness: Consider employee food preferences, portion control, and ingredient usage to minimize waste.
  • Food Safety: Follow applicable food safety, sanitation, hygiene, temperature-control, and food-storage requirements.
  1. Executive Meal Preparation & Special Requests
  • Prepare authentic traditional Chinese dishes for the CEO and other executives on an occasional, as-needed basis.
  • Accommodate both advance-notice and same-day meal requests when reasonably possible, depending on ingredient availability, preparation time, and existing responsibilities.
  • Coordinate special ingredients, grocery purchases, and menu requirements with HR or management.
  • Prepare and appropriately package meals for takeaway when requested.
  • Balance executive meal requests with regular employee lunch service and kitchen responsibilities.
  • Maintain reasonable scheduling flexibility for approved special requests, including occasional additional paid hours when authorized by management.

Advance notice is preferred for complex dishes requiring special ingredients or extended preparation time.

  1. Kitchen & Café Upkeep
  • Daily Cleaning: Maintain kitchen equipment, countertops, utensils, food-service stations, and shared dining tables.
  • Daily Operations: Coordinate kitchen setup, meal service timing, cleaning, and closing procedures.
  • Kitchen Organization: Keep cooking supplies, storage areas, and shared kitchen spaces clean and organized.
  • Facilities Coordination: Monitor equipment conditions and notify HR or Facilities when maintenance, repairs, or deep cleaning are required.
  1. Grocery Shopping & Inventory Support
  • Grocery Purchasing: Dedicate approximately 1–2 scheduled days per week to preparing shopping lists, purchasing groceries from approved vendors, or coordinating deliveries.
  • Receiving & Storage: Receive, inspect, unpack, organize, and properly store groceries and kitchen supplies.
  • Expense Tracking: Collect, organize, and submit purchasing receipts and expense documentation to HR/Operations weekly.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor expiration dates, food quantities, and supplies while keeping approved snacks, beverages, and condiments stocked.
  • Cost Awareness: Minimize unnecessary purchases and food waste through practical menu planning and inventory management.
  • Work Time: All hours worked must be accurately recorded. Grocery shopping, authorized business errands, menu planning, purchasing, inventory administration, and other required job duties are compensable work activities. Off-the-clock work is prohibited.
  1. Event & Meeting Support
  • Meeting Refreshments: Assist with basic food preparation, setup, and refreshments for occasional executive or team meetings.
  • Company Events: Provide hands-on support for larger holiday celebrations and company events, including buffet setup, replenishment, and cleanup.
  • Catering Coordination: Work with outside caterers and designated staff as needed. Large-scale catering events will be managed by outside providers rather than independently by this position.

Grocery Purchasing, Business Travel & Expenses Authorized grocery shopping, purchasing, delivery coordination, business errands, and related administrative duties are compensable work activities and must be accurately recorded. Eligible business-related mileage and necessary expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with applicable California law and Company policy. Normal commuting between home and the regular work location is not reimbursable unless otherwise required by law.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, Café Assistant, Private Cook, or similar food-service professional.

  • Time Management: Ability to independently complete cooking, meal service, and cleanup within a four-hour daily schedule.
