Original job description

Description SilverTech is an award-winning digital experience agency, with team members across the country that thrives on combining big ideas and creative tech to solve today’s most challenging business problems. Our advanced skillsets and extensive experience have been proven to be successful in helping businesses achieve aggressive growth. Learn more about our team, values, and the individuals who have led the agency since its inception in 1996 at silvertech.com. Our vision is to set the standard for digital excellence by building proactive, enduring partnerships that move clients forward with clarity and confidence.

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Team Lead to lead our SRE team and evolve our managed hosting practice. Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, this role is responsible for the performance, security, and reliability of client environments across a modern, multi-cloud ecosystem, and for building a team that delivers that reliability consistently.

You’ll be a hands-on technical leader - setting the team’s direction, mentoring and developing team members, and partnering with internal teams and clients to deploy, support, and improve infrastructure, while taking ownership of systems end to end. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex challenges, growing other engineers, and driving meaningful improvements in both technology and client experience.

What You'll Do:

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and oversee the SRE team, assigning and prioritizing work, balancing project and operational demands, and keeping the team focused on the highest-impact initiatives.
Review the team’s technical output - system changes, configurations, pipelines, and documentation - to ensure quality, security, and consistency with established standards.
Support each team member’s growth through regular one-on-ones, coaching, and opportunities for training and certification.
Foster a collaborative, accountable team culture where knowledge is shared and people feel supported.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, goal setting, and performance evaluations, and partner with the Chief Innovation Officer and other team leads on team structure and staffing needs.

Hosting Operations & Reliability

Own day-to-day performance, security, and reliability of client hosting environments across Azure, AWS, WP Engine, and Windows Server/IIS.
Maintain proactive monitoring, identifying and resolving issues before client impact, while delivering a high-touch, white-glove support experience.
Own the on-call rotation and incident response process to support 24/7 client coverage, participating in the rotation and serving as the lead point of contact for major incidents and outages.

Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering

Architect and implement secure, resilient hosting environments with best practices for redundancy, disaster recovery, and multi-cloud strategies.
Define and maintain infrastructure as code to ensure consistency and scalability across environments.
Manage Azure services (App Services, Azure SQL, Key Vaults, Application Insights) and legacy AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, S3).

DevOps & Deployment

Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, ensuring reliable and repeatable deployments.
Manage SSL/TLS lifecycle, DNS configurations, and domain services across platforms.
Support SSO integrations and identity configurations tied to hosted applications.

Systems Administration

Administer Windows Server and IIS environments, including performance tuning, patching, and configuration management.
Oversee WP Engine-hosted WordPress environments, including updates and platform configurations.

Collaboration & Client Engagement

Serve as the senior escalation point for hosting-related issues, providing root-cause analysis and long-term solutions.
Partner with development teams to align infrastructure with application architecture and support go-live readiness.
Engage directly with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical decisions, and act as a trusted advisor.

Standards & Continuous Improvement

Lead the evolution of SilverTech’s hosting practice by improving reliability, security, and operational standards, and ensure they are understood and followed across the team.
Partner with the Chief Innovation Officer on hosting strategy, roadmap planning, budgeting, and vendor relationships, providing regular updates on team performance, risks, and priorities.
Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance processes, tooling, and overall service delivery.

What You Need to Succeed:

7+ years of experience in systems administration, cloud infrastructure, or hosting environments, including 2+ years leadership/management.
Expertise in Microsoft Azure hosting services, including App Services, Azure SQL, Key Vaults, Application Insights, and networking.
Strong experience administering Windows Server and IIS in production environments.
Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including EC2, RDS, and S3.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipeline management in Azure DevOps.
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.
Solid understanding of cloud security principles, including IAM, network security, and vulnerability management.
Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
A service-oriented mindset with strong ownership, accountability, and responsiveness.

Experience That Will Set You Apart:

Working with people, not just pipelines. This role involves interacting with internal and external clients.
Advanced experience with Cloudflare, especially in a SAAS setting.
Experience supporting .NET-based applications in Azure.
Familiarity with WP Engine or similar managed WordPress hosting platforms.
Experience leading or mentoring engineers - assigning work, coaching, and contributing to hiring and performance reviews - and influencing technical direction.

Location:

This role offers flexibility based on candidate location and business needs, with the option to work hybrid from our Bedford, NH office or fully remote within the U.S.

Our Benefits:

Strong compensation package
Competitive health packages
401k with company match
Flexible work schedules
Hybrid workweek
Unlimited PTO after 5 years
Your birthday off
Regular learning & development opportunities
Monthly company-provided lunches
A fun, collaborative, and innovative team that actually likes working together
Cutting-edge technology and creative freedom
Regular crew events, outings, and more!
