Original job description

We train and promote from within Excellent low-cost health benefits Retirement plan with employer-paid contributions Paid vacation and 10 holidays

At Sierra Pacific Industries, we understand our greatest strength is the people who choose to build a career with us. We are a fourth-generation family-owned company that has grown to be one of the largest lumber and millwork producers in the United States. Our more than 6,000 employees are proud to work at our state-of-the-art sawmills and other facilities, including: manufacturing, custom wood-framed windows, fabrication, millwork, veneer, cogeneration, trucking, forestry, and other operations.

Currently, we are seeking a qualified Boiler Operations Engineer to support the Company’s boiler operations and maintenance program. This position may be located in either Shasta County, California or Eugene, Oregon.

About the Position

Develop, implement, and maintain standardized chemistry requirements for boiler and cooling-water systems in coordination with the Boiler Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Program Engineer and division personnel
Establish boiler O&M standards including sampling points, test methods, equipment, reagents, frequencies, procedures, test registers, chemistry limits, log sheets, control charts
Translate boiler O&M standards into governed requirements, data-validation rules, diagnostic responses, corrective actions, training requirements, and technical content for Company information systems
Support field implementation and continuous improvement
Administer testing quality control including training and corrective actions program
Train and qualify operating personnel in sampling, analytical methods, equipment use, recordkeeping, data validation, and response to abnormal conditions
Review chemistry and operating data to distinguish analytical error from credible process excursions
Identify adverse trends, recurring problems, and opportunities to improve treatment, efficiency, and reliability
Lead or support investigations and corrective actions involving corrosion, deposition, carryover, contamination, condenser leakage, treatment-system failures, equipment performance, and recurrent out-of-range conditions; verify implementation and effectiveness and document closure
Develop operating, maintenance, outage, commissioning, and capital-improvement recommendations for boilers and associated water, steam, condensate, analyzer, and chemical-feed systems
Maintain controlled procedures, specifications, records, and training materials
Coordinate with division personnel, laboratories, vendors, contractors, and manufacturers while independently verifying technical recommendations
Frequent travel to other divisions in California, Oregon, and Washington, including occasional multiple overnight stays away from home

Qualifications

Navy engineer or boilerman experience with boiler operator certification and demonstrated competence in quality assurance and testing
Bachelor of Science in chemical, mechanical, or related engineering will be considered in lieu of experience
College coursework or working experience in industrial water treatment, chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer, or power generation is preferred
Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to develop proficiency in, boiler-water and steam-cycle chemistry, corrosion and deposition, pretreatment and chemical-feed systems, sampling, and field or laboratory analytical methods
Working knowledge of applicable safety and environmental requirements
Demonstrated ability to interpret chemistry and operating data; apply quality-assurance, method-validation, and root-cause-analysis principles; and develop clear procedures, standards, training materials, and engineering recommendations with progressively less supervision
Ability to work across multiple divisions and priorities and, as proficiency develops, train and qualify operating personnel
Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, operations information systems, and process-control or historian data; familiarity with SCADA is preferred
Demonstrated commitment to technical integrity, accurate records, Company policy, and regulatory compliance
Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time, including occasional extended time away from home

Why Join Our Team? Because this is more than an invitation, it's a commitment to offer opportunities for personal and professional growth to everyone! We ask people to grow with us and make the company even better.

We provide an excellent benefit package including a full Health Benefits Plan (including medical, dental, and vision) with low-cost premiums, a 401(k) with Company Match, additional Retirement Contributions, and company-paid Life Insurance.

Sierra Pacific is an (EOE) Equal Opportunity Employer, including those with a disability and veterans. The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $75,000 and $95,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.

About Our Company Sierra Pacific Industries is a fourth-generation family-owned company based in Northern California that started in 1949 and has grown to be one of the largest lumber and millwork producers in the U.S., employing around 6,500 crew members. Sierra Pacific continues to be a company where its employees are proud to work at state-of-the-art facilities and others strive to become part of the team.

We own and sustainably manage more than 2.4 million acres of timberland in California, Oregon, and Washington. Our forests are sustainably managed under a 100-year plan by Registered Professional Foresters, Wildlife Biologists, Botanists, and other professionals. We are growing forests for our future, planting over 6 million new trees every year. In Spring 2024, we planted our 300 millionth seedling on our timberlands. This milestone was decades in the making, reflecting our commitment to sustainable forest management and ensuring we have forests not just for today, but for generations to come.

Sierra Pacific effectively uses nearly 100% of every piece of wood we bring to our facilities. In fact, any small amount that isn't turned into hand-crafted doors and windows, millwork, lumber, or landscaping material is actually converted into electricity in our eight biomass-fueled power plants.

We are proud that all Sierra Pacific facilities follow our drug-free and tobacco-free policies. As part of our safety in the workplace policy, an offer of employment is subject to a negative drug screen result. We use E-verify to verify the social security number and work authorization of all newly hired employees. Sierra Pacific is an (EOE) Equal Opportunity Employer, including those with a disability and veterans.
