Transform the everyday with us!
We are looking for an Engineering Manager, PPA Field Technician Development Program. This hybrid position will be based at our corporate headquarters in Wendell, North Carolina.
You will lead the Power Protection & Automation (PPA) Field Technician Development Program (FTDP), building and developing a nationwide team of field technicians who support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, protection and automation testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. You will combine technical leadership, workforce development, and resource planning to improve field readiness, execution capacity, safety, quality, and consistency.
You’ll make a difference by:
- Lead, coach, and manage FTDP participants from onboarding and technical training through field rotations, readiness assessments, program completion, and placement into field-service roles.
- Deploy technicians across the United States to support FATs, SATs, relay injection testing, protection-curve verification, functional testing, troubleshooting, commissioning support, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical guidance for protection and automation testing while connecting technicians with engineering subject-matter experts for equipment-design decisions and complex technical issues.
- Coordinate assignments, travel, overtime, tools, test equipment, software access, safety training, and customer-site requirements across competing project priorities.
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Power Academy, subject-matter experts, and field teams to align technician qualifications, capacity, and deployment with project needs.
- Develop and standardize technical curricula, hands-on learning, qualification matrices, checklists, test procedures, and documentation practices that improve safety, quality, and execution consistency.
- Monitor readiness, productivity, quality, and employee development; use field feedback, defects, rework, and lessons learned to improve training and field execution.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- 3+ years of experience with the following:
- Power systems, protection and automation, controls, commissioning, field service, or technical project execution.
- Protection relays, relay injection and functional testing, protection-curve verification, FATs, SATs, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
- Leading, training, mentoring, or developing technical employees and field teams.
- Coordinating field assignments, travel, overtime, test equipment, software access, training, and competing priorities.
- Collaborating across engineering, project management, training, field service, and customer-facing teams.
- Ability to work from the Wendell, North Carolina office at least two days per week and travel up to 25% domestically to support field teams, training, career events, and customer or project locations.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
- Field experience with protection and automation systems, substations, testing, troubleshooting, or commissioning.
- Experience developing technical training, hands-on learning, development plans, qualification standards, or readiness assessments.
- Experience managing early-career, apprenticeship, rotational, technician, or workforce-development programs.
- Experience using safety, quality, performance, training, or field-readiness data to improve programs and field execution.
