A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Senior Protection & Control (P&C) Commissioning Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for protection and control commissioning activities on high-voltage substation EPC and turnkey projects. Your day will involve leading relay testing, functional checks, control system validation, end-to-end testing, and energization activities while coordinating closely with engineering, construction, OEM, and customer teams. You will ensure protection relays, control systems, metering equipment, SCADA interfaces, and secondary systems are safely tested, integrated, and ready for energization and handover. Through technical leadership and a strong commitment to safety and precision, you will help deliver reliable grid infrastructure while meeting project schedules and customer requirements.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and test programs for protection and control systems within high-voltage substations, including support for isolation and Permit-to-Work (PTW) processes.
  • Lead and oversee testing and commissioning of protection relays, control systems, metering equipment, SCADA interfaces, communication systems, and substation control panels.
  • Perform and supervise relay testing, end-to-end testing, functional checks, logic verification, point-to-point testing, and control system validation to ensure system readiness for energization.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and mentor commissioning teams while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, OEMs, engineering teams, and customer representatives to resolve technical issues, manage risks, and meet project milestones and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NERC, OSHA, and customer-specific standards while maintaining commissioning documentation, test reports, relay settings verification records, NCRs, RAMS, and as-built documentation.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5–10 years of experience in protection and control commissioning, with required experience in high-voltage substations.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission and distribution protection schemes, digital relays, substation automation systems, grid operations, and protection applications; experience with BESS is preferred.
  • Experience testing and commissioning microprocessor-based protection relays, including SEL, Siemens, GE, ABB/Hitachi Energy , or equivalent platforms, with the ability to interpret single-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, relay logic drawings, and test procedures.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA requirements, environmental compliance, high-voltage safety practices, and commissioning documentation, with excellent communication and troubleshooting skills.
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 50% for field commissioning work , including travel to customer and project sites as required.
