Original job description

Shipfusion gives brands the best tools possible for building a successful eCommerce operation. We were founded by a team of long-time eCommerce and logistics professionals who believe retailers should be able to trust their fulfillment partners as much as their in-house team.

At Shipfusion, we pride ourselves on our commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation. We are always looking for individuals who share these values and who are looking to further their careers in a unique and rapidly growing organization!

The Opportunity:

Shipfusion is hiring a Director of IT & Infrastructure to lead the strategic direction of our IT, IoT, and Cloud Infrastructure functions across North America. Reporting to the Sr. VP, Technology, this is a senior leadership role for someone who treats IT as a strategic enabler of business growth and not a cost centre to be managed. This is the first dedicated leadership role of its kind at Shipfusion. You'll be defining the function as much as running it.

In this role you will...

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and own the multi-year IT and infrastructure roadmap, covering endpoint management, network architecture, identity, SaaS portfolio, cloud footprint, and IoT, aligned to Shipfusion's growth and product strategy
  • Partner with Product and Engineering as a technical consultant on how IT capabilities can enable new product features, integrations, and customer-facing infrastructure decisions
  • Partner with Operations leadership on warehouse technology strategy how IoT, networking, and endpoint choices support fulfillment performance and new site launches
  • Own SOC2 IT controls end-to-end, including audit readiness, evidence collection, control design, and remediation
  • Define the IT security and compliance posture for the company's corporate and operational systems: Zero Trust principles, identity and access management, endpoint security, vendor risk
  • Develop and steward the IT budget and vendor portfolio: strategic vendor selection, contract negotiation, renewal strategy, total cost of ownership analysis
  • Build the IT levels framework, career ladders, and hiring plan for the IT organization in partnership with the SVP of Technology and People team

People Leadership

  • Manage the IT Team Lead as a direct report, providing coaching, goal-setting, and growth support
  • Through the Ops Manager, set direction for the broader IT team across Chicago, York, and Las Vegas
  • Build a culture of proactive, platform-driven IT operations: moving the team from reactive ticket-handling to engineered reliability
  • Partner with the SVP of Technology on hiring, performance, and succession planning for the IT organization

Hands on Architecture and Problem Solving

  • Lead architectural decisions on novel infrastructure problems: new site launches, major platform migrations, security incidents requiring senior judgment, cross-functional integration questions
  • Own the server compliance and corporate cloud footprint: Ubuntu server estate, AWS infrastructure used for IT and operational systems (distinct from product engineering infrastructure, which is owned by the TechOps function within Engineering)
  • Define standards and reference architectures that the Ops Manager and L3 specialists implement: network design patterns, MDM policies, identity integrations, monitoring and alerting standards
  • Step into hands-on work when the problem requires senior technical judgment, not as default mode, but when it's the right tool for the moment

Cross Functional Influence

  • Represent IT at the technology leadership table; bring forward proposals that shape company-wide decisions on tooling, process, and infrastructure investment
  • Build effective working relationships with Engineering's TechOps function, Operations, Finance, and People teams
  • Be the senior IT voice on business continuity, incident response, and infrastructure risk for the executive team
