Lifeguard

Lifeguards perform a wide variety of tasks which directly relates to the safety and well-being of swimmers, both in and around the pool area, and indirect responsibilities and other duties, as assigned to insure a positive public relations image and proper facility and park appearance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

To include, but not limited to:

• Administer First-Aid or CPR when needed and report all serious accidents to designated supervisor on duty;
• The supervision and constant surveillance of patrons during pool hours and special events;
• Knowledge of emergency procedures;
• Knowledge of pool rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
• Enforcing of the rules and regulations and rendering appropriate and fair disciplinary measures when necessary;
• Ability to lift 50lbs;
• Assisting guests to proper first aid, and completing necessary forms;
• Punctuality of all assigned shifts and duties by reporting to work fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled start time;
• Relaying problem situations to the Head Lifeguard or Pool Manager;
• Act in a professional manner at all times;
• Maintain a good working relationship with staff members, maintenance personnel, administrative personnel, and pool patrons.
• Provide high quality customer service;
• Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Pursue job responsibilities in a professional and mature manner and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with pool guests, co-workers and facility management in a positive manner. Willingness to promote the Shaker Heights Parks & Recreation Department and its related programs. A pre-employment skills evaluation may be conducted prior to hire.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum age of 15 years old
• Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard, required
• Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED, required
• Previous lifeguard experience, preferred
