About the job
The API & Developer Experience team is looking for a Software Developer to help build and evolve developer.sas.com, the portal where developers – and, increasingly, AI agents – discover and use SAS APIs. Our team owns the standards, publishing pipeline and portal behind hundreds of SAS Viya APIs, and we're making that entire catalog ready for the agentic era.
AI agents are quickly becoming first-class consumers of APIs, and we're investing to make SAS one of the easiest platforms for them to work with. That means agent-ready discovery on the portal – linked Markdown for every API operation, MCP and OAuth discovery metadata – built on API contracts that agents can trust. You'll help define what an agent-ready developer portal looks like, while keeping the experience fast, accessible and reliable for the people who use it every day. You'll work in a modern React and Next.js codebase on Azure, on a small team where your work ships weekly and reaches developers around the world.
As a Software Developer, you will:
- Design, develop and test high-quality, scalable features for developer.sas.com using React, TypeScript and Next.js, following R&D best practices and processes.
- Build agent-ready capabilities – such as Markdown for agents, API catalog and discovery endpoints, and machine-readable metadata – so AI agents can find and use SAS APIs reliably.
- Partner with designers, content owners, product managers and API teams to make sure features meet requirements and align with SAS standards.
- Own your code across its full life cycle, including unit, end-to-end and accessibility testing, production support, and improving the portal's reliability, performance and observability on Azure.
- Participate in project scoping and planning, track your progress, and flag issues that block completion early.
- Write clear design and technical documentation for internal and external audiences.
- Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
- Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.
- Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity and accountability. These are our values and influence everything we do.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum 5 years of software development/programming experience.
- 3–5 years of experience building production web applications with React and TypeScript.
- Experience building server-rendered applications with Next.js or a similar React framework, including server-side API routes.
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) through an ORM (Prisma), and implementing authentication/authorization in web applications (OAuth 2.0/RBAC).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), including build, test (Jest/Playwright), and deployment automation.
- Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
