Partnering cross-functionally with Operations, HR, Risk, Legal, and site leadership, this role provides strategic governance and hands-on oversight for safety audits, on-site walk-throughs, hazard mitigation, incident investigations, and return-to-work efforts. By leading site safety teams, standardizing training programs, and monitoring safety KPIs, the EHS Manager embeds a proactive, shared culture of safety and continuous improvement across the entire organization.
Strategic Leadership & Program Governance
- Evolve and execute standardized EHS strategies, practices, and procedures across retail stores, workrooms, and distribution centers.
- Establish, track, and analyze enterprise safety KPIs, site health scorecards, and safety trends; present risks and mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
- Partner cross-functionally (HR, Risk, Legal, Facilities, Operations) to align safety objectives with overall business goals and operational performance.
Field Engagement, Audits & Operational Oversight
- Lead safety inspection programs, on-site walk-throughs, hazard assessments, and comprehensive site audits across stores, workrooms, and supply chain facilities to ensure program adherence.
- Partner with Regional Directors, Store Managers, and DC Leadership to implement, sustain, and cascade safety responsibilities across all organization levels.
- Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and continuous coaching to site EHS staff and safety committee members.
Compliance, Risk Management & Claims
- Establish and maintain a structured plan to properly manage workplace safety according to OSHA’s guidelines.
- Oversee EHS recordkeeping, training certifications, OSHA logs, audit documentation, and regulatory compliance reporting.
- Collaborate with Risk Management, HR, and Legal on workers’ compensation claims, regulatory inspections, and return-to-work programs.
Incident Management & Root-Cause Analysis
- Lead enterprise incident reporting and root-cause investigation processes for workplace injuries, safety incidents, and near-misses.
- Document every reported customer injury in accordance with company policy, even when the injury initially appears minor.
- Validate that effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented and shared across all operating sites to prevent reoccurrence.
- Communicate lessons learned and trend reports to executive and site leadership.
Training, Culture & Continuous Improvement
- Cultivate a company-wide safety culture through safety campaigns, recognition programs, and enterprise safety stand-downs.
- Develop, standardize, and deliver EHS training programs for associates, site supervisors, and leadership (including Day 1 and new-hire safety onboarding).
- Lead continuous improvement projects that streamline safety processes and reduce workplace operational risks.
Work Experience/Educational Level/Certificates
- 5–8+ years of progressive EHS experience in a multi-site retail, distribution center, fulfillment, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire); CSP, ASP, or CIH certification is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, fire codes, workers' compensation processes, and local safety standards.
- Ability to build and enhance a safety program. Proven track record of leading site safety audits, managing incident investigations, and coaching cross-functional leaders in a decentralized network.
- Proficiency with EHS management software, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability and willingness to travel to retail stores and distribution centers (approx. 20–25%).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or rebuilding safety programs in a growing retail/supply chain network.
- Strong data analysis skills to translate incident trends into targeted action plans.
- Advanced interpersonal and change-management skills to drive cultural adoption across operational teams.
- Ability to demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, by spotting risk opportunities to implement EHS improvements.
