Original job description

RWE Americas, LLC To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent

Functional area: Project Management Remuneration: Exempt

The Senior Preconstruction Associate will support and coordinate preconstruction activities for utility-scale wind, solar, and storage renewable energy projects - including engineering, permitting, interconnection, and scope development - working under the direction of the Director and alongside Senior Project Managers to help ensure projects are designed, de-risked, and contractually prepared so construction can begin and proceed efficiently without delays or gaps.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support preconstruction project readiness by tracking priorities, schedules, deliverables, and action items across multiple assigned projects from roughly 30% design through mobilization, helping build project schedules and manage internal timelines and third-party engineers, independently owning portions of documentation workflows, and escalating issues to the PM or Director, ensuring a clean handoff to Project Execution through disciplined coordination and follow-up
  • Provide clear and timely reporting by preparing status reports, risk and issue logs, and concise decision-ready summaries for the Director, Sr. PMs, and PMs, validating inputs such as permit requirements and drawing status to flag delays or gaps, and preparing materials for internal project reviews (e.g., TRC and Development meetings), enabling early escalation and informed decisions through accurate data and clear written communication
  • Assist with project de-risking and value engineering by identifying cost, schedule, constructability, design, and permitting risks and by gathering data, coordinating stakeholders, and documenting options for LCOE and value-engineering reviews, reducing project cost and risk through analytical evaluation and cross-functional collaboration
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables and design reviews by working with Engineering and third-party engineers to track geotechnical, civil, HV, PV, and BESS designs to required completion levels, organizing review comments, supporting weekly design review meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and checking alignment with RWE standards, ensuring bid and construction readiness through schedule monitoring and technical coordination
  • Coordinate survey and predecessor activities with Development, Engineering, and Procurement by acting as the day-to-day liaison to gather project inputs, track topographic and ALTA survey completion, and route questions to the right PM or Director, enabling accurate engineering design through dependency management and data validation
  • Support site layout optimization by helping set timelines and participating in buildable-area reviews, site visits, and contractor meetings, ensuring constructible and cost-efficient designs that meet stormwater and permitting requirements through trade-off input to Solar Engineering, which owns the layout
  • Help prepare and track civil permitting plans by working with Engineering, Development, Environmental, Execution, and Legal to identify required permits (DOT driveway, grading, drainage, utility crossing, and O&M building), approval processes, and timelines, preparing SWPPP and building permit
  • Help prepare interconnection plans and schedules by aligning Engineering, Transmission, Global Data Management, and Compliance on the equipment, testing, data, and control requirements for back-feed, export, and substation operation, ensuring successful grid integration and handing the schedule to Project Execution at mobilization
  • Integrate O&M requirements into project scope by coordinating with O&M on facility specifications, initial spares, and startup needs so they are captured in the BoP scope of work, ensuring long-term operability through lifecycle planning and cross-functional collaboration
  • Assemble scopes of work and support EPC/BoP bidding by consolidating engineering inputs, organizing joint reviews with Project Execution and Engineering to identify scope gaps, compiling target price assumptions and bid comparison summaries, coordinating Owner Supplied Equipment allocation, and handing completed packages to Procurement, ensuring bid accuracy through critical analysis and structured collaboration
  • Support contract strategy, contractor selection, and negotiations by working with Procurement and Execution on contract strategy and plans, assisting with bid reviews and estimating, and joining contractor meetings to review bids, clarify scope, and discuss pricing and schedule, ensuring aligned scopes and well-prepared negotiations through analysis and structured follow-up
  • Support estimating and FID deliverables by assembling project estimates, databooks, and handover checklists with Estimating and Engineering and confirming required inputs are complete and accurate, ensuring projects are shovel-ready and supported for project approval
  • Contribute to offtake and engineer-selection efforts by preparing first drafts of offtake RFP and TRC content and supporting BTA EOR selection and project engineering coordination by arranging meetings, tracking actions, and preparing documentation with PM or Director guidance, ensuring clear, accurate materials through organized documentation and follow-up

Job Requirements and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited university. An engineering degree is preferred
  • The role requires 3 plus years of experience in Renewable Energy construction, engineering, and project management. Preferably the individual will have an engineering degree and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Experience with wind, solar, and/or BESS civil design, permitting, interconnection, or BoP/EPC contracting, familiarity with CPM scheduling, and experience contributing to process-improvement efforts are also preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong communication skills, including clear written reports and concise summaries for technical and leadership audiences, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks, projects, and deliverables
  • Working knowledge of preconstruction workflows and how surveys, reports, and permits affect engineering timelines
  • Ability to resolve routine coordination and documentation issues with minimal guidance and to escalate complex issues appropriately
  • Ability to multitask while working independently and as part of a team
