With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join its Mechanical Systems design team within the Mechanical Systems, Externals & Nacelles (MSEN) organization. This role supports next-generation military engine programs through the design and development of complex mechanical systems hardware, including bearing compartments, rotating bearing assemblies, carbon seals, seal plates, oil distribution systems, and coupling shafts. The engineer will develop innovative, cost-effective design solutions that meet structural, functional, packaging, and maintainability requirements while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver critical program commitments.

What You Will Do:

Design and develop mechanical systems hardware, including bearing compartment supports and housings, rotating bearing assemblies, carbon seal assemblies, seal plates, oil distribution systems, and coupling shafts.
Develop technically sound design solutions, perform fit/function calculations and module assembly assessments, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Apply Engineering Standard Work (ESW), Engineering Knowledge System (EKS), and RTX CORE tools to improve design processes and hardware definition release methods.
Participate in Agile Sprint and Increment planning, present design solutions at technical reviews and Sprint Demos, and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
Support manufacturing vendors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful hardware development, assembly, validation, and future engine builds.

Travel Requirement: less than 25% (Domestic).

What You Will Learn:

Mechanical Systems hardware design requirements and integration with surrounding engine systems.
Cross-functional collaboration with IPTs, CIPTs, and Mechanical Systems discipline leadership.
Module-center engineering interactions involving structural, thermal-fluids, bearings, and seals disciplines.
Coordination with assembly, validation, and instrumentation engineers to support successful engine builds.
Advanced NX modeling, design optimization, analysis tools, and technical mentorship practices.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline with 5 years of relevant engineering experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant experience. Relevant mechanical design engineering experience, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience, and demonstrated ability to deliver successful engineering projects and design solutions.

Qualifications We Prefer:

Mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance on calculations, layouts, and EKS deliverables.
Developing mechanical systems hardware for gas turbine engines.
Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams supporting hardware assembly and validation.
Ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges and develop effective design solutions.
Existing U.S. government-issued Secret Security clearance.
