At RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, 185,000 great minds are united by purpose and inspired to make a difference solving the world’s most complex problems. With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.
Role Overview:
RTX BBN Technologies is one of RTX’s premier research and development centers. Our diverse research portfolio combines the best technologies to deliver innovative, custom solutions for real-world applications.
At RTX BBN Technologies, we develop new science by applying radical cross-disciplinary techniques to prototype systems in order to prove concept viability. This is especially evident in our Physical Systems and Sciences group, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where scientists and engineers anticipate the future in both very large and very small-scale scientific systems that often need to survive challenging operational environments.
We are seeking a qualified early career electrical technician to become an integral part of these efforts by joining the hardware development team, who design and prototype innovative multi-domain system architectures.
What You Will Do:
You will be supporting the hardware team in developing custom electromechanical systems, working side by side with systems engineers, software developers, and scientists. Advanced prototype hardware will be developed and manufactured on site, and you will build and integrate custom electronics, wiring harnesses, and hardware on challenging R&D programs. This position requires hands-on working knowledge and capabilities with physical hardware and electronics and the use of experimental equipment. This position could include occasional off-site field-testing support. Examples of the advanced system challenges this team has developed innovative solutions for:
- End to end design of custom RF and underwater communication payload packages for unmanned undersea vehicles
- Development of high channel density and high-fidelity ruggedized data acquisition systems for integration into land, sea, and airborne miliary platforms
- Unique packaging, power, and thermal management designs for ultra-low power, long-lifetime covert sensor systems
- Design and development of distributed real-time processing systems interfaced with seismic, acoustic, or RF sensor systems
- These projects may be sponsored by the Department of Defense, other Federal Government agencies or commercial organizations
Qualifications You Must Have:
- An associate degree or certifications in an applicable discipline (i.e., Electronic Technician, Electrical Engineering, mechanics, or related field) and 4 years of relevant professional work experience;
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
- Experience in wire harness building, wire wrapping, crimping terminations, and over-mold/back-shell and strain relief processes
- Experience in defining electrical wiring interfaces and cable drawings for power, serial, RF (coaxial), and fiber optic applications
- Experience working with, testing and performing board rework for circuits and electrical components
- Experience of soldering surface mount components and use of electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and spectrum/network analyzers
- Proficiency in wiring diagram/schematic literacy
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Professional experience building/terminating MIL Spec connectors such as MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-28840
- Experience in sub sea cables assemblies and depth rated connectors and components.
- Experience in semi-conductor industry hardware support: i.e. wire bonding machines, ATE and probers, vacuum and liquid nitrogen technologies, PLCs and sensors, cleanroom protocol.
- Experience in manufacturing and prototyping processes
- Hands-on experience with manual tools such as bandsaws, table saw, drill press, grinders, pneumatic tools, routers
- Experience in 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving is a plus
