Job Summary:

The 5th Generation Customer Support Engineering (CSE) organization supports the F119 and F135 propulsion systems powering the USAF’s F‑22 and F‑35 fleets. We provide engineering sustainment, technical investigation support, and fleet performance analysis to ensure mission readiness for the US Air Force and international partners.

We are seeking a Customer Support Engineer to serve as the Engineering Investigation (EI) / Deficiency Report (DR) Process Focal Lead. This role enables consistent, timely, and compliant execution of CSE-owned DRs and EIs across both programs. The selected candidate will work closely with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), the Joint Program Office (JPO), MCSS, program offices, and broader engineering organizations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys structured process ownership, cross-functional coordination, and technical governance.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all CSE-owned Engineering Investigations, Reliability or Quality-related Deficiency Reports across the F119 and F135 programs.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with EI/DR contractual requirements, processes, and program expectations.
  • Schedule, organize, and maintain timelines for EI/DR gate reviews and final report deliveries.
  • Support program contract negotiations and planning activities related to DR/EI execution.
  • Review gate review packages and final reports to ensure best practices, quality standards, and technical clarity.
  • Guide CSE engineers in effective DR/EI execution, including process interpretation, requirements, and investigation best practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize EI/DR Standard Work and work instructions; support Discipline Chief governance and periodic updates.
  • Provide DR/EI metrics and performance summaries as required by program leadership.
  • Promote consistent process execution and best practices across both programs and the broader MCSS organization.
  • Facilitate lessons learned sharing and continuous improvement of the EI/DR process.
  • Industry-Specific Insights & Technical Experience.
  • Hands-on experience with structured engineering investigations across the F119 and F135 propulsion systems.
  • Real-world application of DR/EI processes, root cause methodologies, and fleet performance trends.
  • Exposure to customer-facing investigation deliverables and sustainment program requirements.
  • Professional Development Opportunities: access to company-paid training, technical development, and certifications.
  • Mentorship from senior engineers, Discipline Chiefs, and program leadership.
  • Opportunities to lead cross-functional investigations, process improvements, and governance reviews.
  • Development of technical writing, communication, and leadership skills through ownership of recurring processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Networking:
  • Active collaboration with IPTs, MCSS, JPO/USAF customers, quality engineering, and program offices.
  • Participation in technical reviews, multi-disciplinary investigations, and program-level forums.
  • This is a high‑visibility role with regular engagement across programs, customers, and senior engineering leadership.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience (customer support engineering, investigations, systems engineering, sustainment, or similar). Experience to include: root cause analysis, technical investigations, or structured engineering documentation; or an advanced degree with 5+ years of the aforementioned rellevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Prior experience executing or supporting Engineering Investigations, Deficiency Reports, or similar structured investigations.
  • Familiarity with F119/F135 military engine sustainment environments.
  • Experience with gate review processes, technical report quality reviews, or process adherence monitoring.
  • Experience developing or improving Standard Work or engineering documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical data clearly.
  • Ability to influence across teams and drive consistency without direct authority.
  • Experience with Fault Tree Analysis or other structured investigative tools.
  • JCL2 experience or qualification.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with external customers such as the USAF and JPO.
  • Ability to interpret and apply process requirements, internal procedures, and contractual obligations.
