Moving Space Forward Rocketdyne is back - and we’re just getting started. We are unleashing decades of unrivaled flight heritage to power today’s most critical space missions. If you want to do important work at a company where One, Trust, and Bold are a way of life, Rocketdyne is your place. 1JOb Post Template RTF 1.rtf.pdf, Page 1 The Role Rocketdyne is seeking an experienced TIG Welder to join the second-shift team at our Redmond, Washington, facility. In this role, you will weld a variety of metals used in Rocketdyne products, components, fixtures, test stands, industrial structures, tooling, and related equipment. You will perform manual fusion welding and operate mechanized or automated welding systems - including laser, in-place-tube, automatic, and orbital processes - to complete longitudinal and circumferential welds. You will be responsible for setting up welding operations and ensuring finished weldments meet all applicable internal and external specifications. At our Redmond site in the Seattle area, we fabricate, assemble, and test chemical and electric thrusters and small-scale propulsion systems. These technologies enable missions ranging from solar-system exploration to global communications and the monitoring of severe weather and wildfires. Why This Role Matters The quality and reliability of our propulsion hardware depend on precise, specification-compliant welding. Your work will directly support the production of systems designed to operate in demanding mission environments where workmanship, safety, and consistency are critical.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Be Bold by solving complex fabrication challenges and improving how work is performed.
  • Build Trust through reliable workmanship, attention to detail, and strict adherence to safety and quality requirements.
  • Operate as One by partnering with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and production teams to meet program commitments.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Weldments consistently meet applicable drawings, manufacturing instructions, and weld specifications.
  • Critical alignment tolerances are maintained while distortion and shrinkage are effectively controlled.
  • Welding equipment, tooling, fixtures, and work areas are set up and operated safely.
  • Production requirements are achieved without compromising quality or safety.
  • Issues are identified early and communicated clearly to the appropriate manufacturing, quality, or engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding in accordance with approved manufacturing instructions, drawings, planning documents, and specifications.
  • Set up and operate automatic inert-gas arc welding equipment for longitudinal and circumferential welding of assemblies.
  • Lay out weld locations and independently complete required setups.
  • Weld Rocketdyne products using certified processes while maintaining critical alignment tolerances.
  • Improvise or adapt tooling and holding fixtures when required and authorized.
  • Perform manual fusion welding on various metals used in company products and tooling.
  • Support the maintenance, repair, fabrication, and assembly of plant machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Inspect work during setup and welding to help ensure weldments satisfy internal and external requirements.
  • Perform additional manufacturing tasks assigned by the supervisor to support production requirements.
  • Complete required training and attend company meetings.
  • Follow all safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least eight years of relevant experience; or
  • Two-year postsecondary or associate degree with at least four years of relevant experience.
  • At least six years of gas tungsten arc welding - or GTAW/TIG - experience with hard alloys such as stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and/or steel.
  • Experience welding duct assemblies or similar hardware and controlling weld distortion and shrinkage.
  • Experience reading and applying manufacturing plans, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and proper PPE use.
  • Ability to work the designated second-shift schedule in Redmond, Washington.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience welding rocket engines, propulsion systems, or related aerospace hardware.
  • Experience using mixed torch gases, including 95% argon/5% hydrogen and argon-helium mixtures.
  • Previous certification in in-place-tube, automatic, or orbital welding.
  • Experience working in a precision aerospace or similarly regulated manufacturing environment.

Compensation

In compliance with Washington pay-transparency requirements, the base hourly range for this position is $30.05 to $56.01 per hour, plus a 10% shift differential. This range is not a guarantee of compensation. The final offer may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location.
