This position plays a key role in keeping filings accurate and timely, contributing to tax reporting and close activities, and helping the business respond effectively to changing regulations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively across finance and business teams in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for the firm and its related entities, ensuring complete and timely submissions.
- Support partnership tax compliance by preparing and reviewing Schedule K-1 reporting, partner allocation schedules, and related tax documentation for distribution.
- Oversee quarterly estimated tax payments and track filing deadlines across multiple jurisdictions to maintain full compliance.
- Assist with tax reporting activities by reconciling tax accounts, preparing journal entries, maintaining supporting schedules, and contributing to month-end and year-end close processes.
- Contribute to quarterly and annual tax provision work, including analysis of revenue sourcing, apportionment, composite election matters, and partner tax reserve balances.
- Handle indirect tax obligations such as sales and use tax, franchise tax, business license tax, and other jurisdictional filing requirements.
- Research tax law developments and evaluate how legislative or regulatory changes may affect the organization, its transactions, and planning strategies.
- Provide support during tax audits and regulatory inquiries by gathering records, preparing requested documentation, and coordinating with external advisors.
- Identify and implement improvements to tax workflows, documentation standards, internal controls, and tax-related finance systems and processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- 4 to 7 years of tax experience within a law firm, services environment, public accounting firm, or corporate tax department.
- Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing partnership tax returns and related partner reporting.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax rules, including multi-state compliance considerations and election requirements.
- Familiarity with cash and accrual-based accounting concepts and their application to tax reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze data, build schedules, and support reconciliations efficiently.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- CPA certification, progress toward certification, or experience with tax research, compliance software, and accounting platforms such as Elite, 3E, or Aderant is preferred.
