Original job description

We are seeking a senior-level tax professional with at least five years of hands-on experience preparing federal and state income tax returns, including partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and individuals. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of tax accounting, book-to-tax adjustments, fixed assets and depreciation, and experience preparing supporting tax workpapers and reconciliations. Advanced Excel skills and the ability to research and apply tax regulations are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare federal and state income tax filings for business entities, trusts, and related individual taxpayers, along with complete supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Manage recurring non-income tax obligations such as sales and use tax filings, personal property tax submissions, business license renewals, and unclaimed property reporting.
  • Develop monthly tax accounting schedules for intercompany activity, including book-to-tax adjustments, required calculations, and supporting analyses.
  • Examine and reconcile financial information by entity, general ledger account, and cost center to ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Record tax-related journal entries and maintain clear documentation supporting each adjustment.
  • Organize tax workpapers and reconciliations in a thorough, review-ready format that supports internal and external examination.
  • Provide support during tax audits and compliance reviews by assembling schedules, responding to requests, and supplying required documentation.
  • Oversee fixed asset tax records, including additions, retirements, and depreciation calculations for all applicable entities.
  • Monitor tax law developments and assess how federal, state, and local rule changes may affect the organization and related taxpayers.
  • Evaluate filing responsibilities in multiple jurisdictions as operations grow, including income, payroll, sales, and use tax considerations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in tax and accounting work.
  • At least 5 years of tax experience with direct responsibility for preparing both business and individual tax returns.
  • Strong command of federal and state income tax rules, with the ability to apply regulations accurately across varied entity structures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reconciliations, and tax workpaper preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to research tax questions, interpret findings, and apply conclusions effectively.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Sound attention to detail, judgment, discretion, and a high level of integrity when handling sensitive financial information.
