Original job description

We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join a public accounting team. This role will lead client tax engagements across a diverse portfolio while guiding staff, strengthening compliance quality, and delivering thoughtful planning support. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to manage priorities effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and final review of tax filings for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Develop practical tax strategies that help clients reduce exposure while maintaining full compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Supervise senior and staff accountants by reviewing deliverables, offering technical direction, and supporting ongoing development.
  • Investigate complex tax matters, interpret changing guidance, and present clear recommendations to clients and firm leadership.
  • Monitor client accounts for additional advisory or compliance needs and help grow relationships through expanded service opportunities.
  • Track updates in tax legislation and evaluate how new rules may affect client reporting positions and planning decisions.
  • Coordinate team assignments, oversee workflow across engagements, and manage timelines and budgets to support efficient delivery.
  • Maintain high standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and client service throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; advanced tax education is a plus.
  • CPA preferred, or active progress toward licensure.
  • At least 5 years of progressive tax experience, including prior responsibility for leading or supervising team members.
  • Strong expertise in federal and multi-state tax compliance within a public accounting or similar client-service environment.
  • Hands-on experience with tax and accounting platforms such as CCH ProSystem fx, CCH Sales Tax, QuickBooks, or comparable systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements, balance deadlines, and maintain quality in a fast-paced setting.
  • Familiarity with annual income tax provision work, corporate tax returns, and entity formation matters is highly valued.
